Possible to recover from mysql backup to new mariadb setup?

Post by marek_online »

Hi,

My longstanding (8 years) ASRock (mythbuntu) HTPC seems to have packed up completely. I'm looking at moving to a Raspberry Pi 4 per a thread in the Raspberry Pi forum here (that I can't link to here, but it's the top topic).

Looking for advice on the transition. In particular as to whether it's possible to import the mysql database from the old machine (recordings were on a separate external drive that I can just shift over, db should be recoverable too) into a mariadb version in the new setup. The helpful scripts in the above thread set things up with mariadb and I'd prefer to just follow along if I can, trying to make this as painless as it can be. Is there some means of converting between the two formats for the import/recovery?

I know I'll need to get the directory structure similar in the new machine.

Cheers,

Marek.

No an in place upgrade did not work for me, If you are using MySQL 8.0 or above, you have to use mysqldump to move your database to MariaDB.
See https://mariadb.com/kb/en/upgrading-fro ... o-mariadb/.
It may be ok however using earlier versions of mysql.
However I had no troulbles using https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore.
Worked with no issues
