I had the PS3 BD Remote working fine with the 3.16 Linux kernel, using the basic instructions found in the wiki page titled "Sony_PS3_BD_Remote", including using the custom bluetoothd in the bluez package, but when I upgraded to kernel 4.9, MythFrontend wouldn't receive the remote's events.
CLI testing succeeded, showing the events coming through.
Finally I checked the X11 log (Xorg.0.log) and discovered an error that indicated it didn't know what to do with the PS3 remote's events.
I installed package xserver-xorg-input-evdev and, after an X11 server restart, the remote was again usable.

I would've updated the wiki if I could, but I don't have the option to create a wiki account.

Unfortunately new wiki registrations have had to be blocked due to abuse by spammers. I have added a link to this post on the wiki page.
Don't forget the Wiki.
