Whither MythTV and Streaming?

Post by kbocek »

A general inquiry if Myth is suited to and has support for streaming.

I see:

Code: Select all

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/IPTV_Encoders_as_a_Capture_Device
And:

Code: Select all

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/IPTV
But I am unclear on what it all means. All of the local channels here in San Francisco have web streaming options. Any way to leverage those into Myth?

I think if you check the terms of service, you are likely not permitted to make a local copy of the streamed program. MythTV as a project cannot support violating such terms.

Well no I'm not talking about pirating anything. But your negative answer kind of tells me that Myth *doesn't* support streaming of anything.

This wiki page is probably more relevant to what you want to do.

It all depends on how the stations you want to record make the streams available. Most don't want you to record them so make it as difficult as possible to do that and then there is the TOS which I'll leave up to you to decide on if it's legal

Yeah that's it. Didn't see that page. Might be fun to setup something like CNN.

Thanks pvr4me and paulh for the posts.
