Adding Shows/Episodes from External Source

Post by aazman »

I've been ripping my DVDs over the past few days just fine. I put the MakeMKV ripped/Handbrake compressed files in the right folder for the Videos storage group (/var/lib/mythtv/videos), enter the Videos menu, scan for changes, and there they are! No problems at all.

Then I had the thought, I've got seasons of TV shows on DVD, why can't I rip those, place the individual episodes in the folder for the Recordings storage group (/var/lib/mythtv/recordings), and have those TV shows in my recordings list?

I can rip the episodes one at a time, no problem. I can put them in the right folder, no problem, but they don't appear in the recordings list. I don't see a 'scan for changes' option in the recordings menu.

How do I insert these episodes into my recordings database?

They're not recordings from a MythTV perspective (no entries in the
recorded etc. table in the DB.) And, there's no tool to add them.

I've put a couple in videos myself. Make directories like SomeShowName/SomeSeason
and put it's recordings there.

Yeah... I'm gathering that from other sources (https://lists.gt.net/mythtv/users/519758#519758). I don't like it, but that entire thread is really interesting, and I'm considering changing my videos/recordings philosophy as I have recorded several entire series from livetv. Maybe I'll port those over to videos, too. We'll see.
