The task is to play HEVC Main 10 coded video material like broadcasted via satelite ASTRA 1 (see http://www.astra.de/18049106/ultra-hd).
VDPAU (NVIDIA graphic) can't do this hardware decoding because it doesn't support 10 bits depth.
see https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... le-on-die/
Currently CUDA seems to be the only way in linux and mpv shows that it works.
You only need to have a NVIDIA graphic adapter with vdpau feature set F and higher.
The question is if there is any plan to have CUDA support in mythtv in near future?
I have searched for CUDA but found nothing in this forum.
Only if interested: My graphic card is NVIDIA 1050Ti.
When playing same material in windows (e.g. via KODI) all is fine.
Thanks,
laasa.

Sounds like no plan at the moment. That's a pity.
And intels VAAPI is no alternative currently (see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2362&p=11509#p11509).
