Mythtv questions

two questions for now (more to come i'm sure):

which tuner card to get (dual tuners are _not_ required, but i'd like hardware encoding)
can i run mythtv without a tuner card to watch dvds for example (just until i get a tuner card)

Tuner card you get will depend on what source you have. Not sure what Canada uses for OTA, but I think it's the same as the US, which is atsc. If so, then no encoding is required as it's already broadcast encoded as mpeg2. I think you can run mythtv without a tuner card and watch dvd's, although I've never done it.
