State of judder free playback?

Post by Lost Dog »

I recently did a system upgrade and moved to a more recent kernel and proprietary Nvidia driver. Most of the old modelines in my xorg.conf are now not valid according to the new Nvidia driver so I'm trying to figure out how to get the correct resolutions and refresh rates depending on the video.

In the past we've had to use the following guide to get judder free playback:

Is this still relevant? Do the newer driver revisions correctly distinguish the difference between 24 and 23.976 for example? Do we still need to rely on modelines or can default options in xorg.conf work?

I've been playing around but have had some issues, primarily with the mythfrontend GUI (for some reason it reverts to 50 Hz no matter what the desktop or videos are set at).
