Hi,
Are there any plans to migrate Mythbrowser away from QtWebkit because of the security vulnerabilities and the fact that it no longer appears to be under active development ?
I noticed that there was some work done on this last year, https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/issues/327, but it seems to have gone quiet.
My distribution, Mageia 9, has dropped it's mythbrowser package as they no long support QtWebkit therefore I have no browser within MythTV to support video streaming sites etc.

Sadly I think it's unlikely this will ever be fixedsteve_t wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 9:12 amHi,

I did some work to replace QWebKit with it's replacement QWebEngine but unfortunately there are incompatibilities between the way MythUI and QWebEngine render stuff that I was unable to overcome. There is some evidence in the code that Mark K. who was rewriting the UI code was aware of the problem and did start to add some stuff to work around the problem but he left the project before he could finish the work. I did ask the remaining fellow developers for assistance but nobody was interested or don't have the necessary knowledge to fix the issues. Sadly most of the remaining devs are of the opinion they don't use the plugins so no one else should so there is little incentive for them to help out

I think it's a shame the plugins was what first interested me in MythTV, being able to have all your music, video and photos all in one place, or being able to see what the weather is going to be like or view the latest news headlines all from the comfort of your arm chair using a remote control was exactly what I was looking for in the mythical convergence box.
I think in today's world having a web browser is even more relevant that it ever was in the past so MythTV can keep up with the trends like as you mention the various video streaming sites like YouTube, PlutoTV, iPlayer ...

Or being able to run the new web frontend app so we can finally access mythtv-settings without leaving mythfrontend. At least, for people like me who "boot" straight into FE. For normal people who use a window manager, launching their favorite browser (or music app, etc) is probably preferable.
Having everything in one console does sound like a pretty cool idea. But, as someone who would actually use it, I can't see much actual demand for it. I suspect it makes more sense to put myth in a browser than a browser in myth.
But then I'm still debating whether to replace systemd with emacs or just plain old SysV init. M-x myth-systemd perhaps?

Got the HDHomeRun Flex and tried it out with VLC. VLC doesn't even mention the audio stream unless on an ATSC 1.0 channel. I tried to play a simulcast ATSC 1.0 channel for audio. Trying to get the lip sync right is tough.
