How to use mythtv to record streaming on roky

Postby jstashpdx » Sun Mar 26, 2017 7:11 pm

Maybe this is too basic a question but, I have a Roku and I want to record streaming content. Can I use mythtv to do this?

Not sure what you really mean here, but, you can use mythtv to record anything that mythtv allows you to record. Once recorded, you can indeed play mythtv content on a Roku, I use Plex for that (a mythtv plugin) but am sure there are other ways to play mythtv content on Roku as well. That advantage of Plex and the plugin is it uses the myth metadata so you can see not just a filename, but, other useful info as well.

I think maybe the OP was asking if it's possible to record (using Myth) streams that are playing through the Roku. If so, I don't think this is possible.

I think you are right, that's probably more likely what he was asking. One would need an HDMI recorder hooked off the Roku, see this for some hints:
