Re: Overclocking to improve playback performance?

Did you try different levels of overclocking, and if so at what point did the playback performance become acceptable? I appreciate all the work done by the MythTV developers to make using an RPi4 possible and also to the MythTV users who share their experiences in the forum and the mailing lists. I...

Re: Jerky video: trying to run Mythfrontend without desktop environment

OK, I think I have come up with a good solution. I have installed Kodi on my RPi. Although the way Kodi connects to the MythTV backend is slightly more limited than the way the proper MythTV frontend does, the limitations are mostly fairly minor. The functionality that I use 90% of the time is ther...

Re: Jerky video: trying to run Mythfrontend without desktop environment

I'm also interested in the FireTV option that you mentioned. Would that involve installing the Android version of MythTV? I just tried that on my phone, and it looks like one limitation of that is that it doesn't play music. Is there any way to get that working on the Android version? You would nee...

Re: Jerky video: trying to run Mythfrontend without desktop environment

Thank for the replies. I've already installed MythTV light, which works fine apart from the jerky video. If I use the pi-utils as you suggest, is it possible that that might configure it differently so that the video is smoother? Since using the pi-utils method takes me 10 minutes to setup a fresh ...

Re: Jerky video: trying to run Mythfrontend without desktop environment

Use the pi-utils to install and configure V31 on RPIs. https://github.com/MikeB2013/pi-utils my blog basically uses that https://mythtv-rp4.blogspot.com/2020/11/how-i-installed-mythtv-v31-on-my-rpi-4.html However, IMHO, the RPI3B+ is not usable for HD content with Mythtv V31 The RPI4 is barely watch...

Re: leanfront requirements

I originally had a FireTV stick that was not 4K and none of the mythtv apps work very well on it at all; really unusable for HD programming. The FireTV 4K and FireTV Cube will run mythtv-leanfront and mythtv-frontend nicely. I just tested leanfront-v0-239-g7770891 on my FireTV 4K stick and it works ...

Re: Replacement for MythTV Player app?

I'm not sure this helps, but what about Mythfrontend on Android TV or Leanfront on Android TV. I have a 3 or 4 year old Samsung Smart TV but don't like it's apps, so I have a Nvidia Shield TV and I've also tested a FireTV 4K stick (4K version is key) and they all work great for using the official my...

Raspberry PI version of Mythtv v31 still at v31.0-59?

When I build a Combo FE/BE using a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB I use the mythtv-light package PPA and the helper scripts from MikeB https://github.com/MikeB2013/pi-utils When that is done I notice that I have version v31.0-59. I know that the x86_64 version is v31.0-122 or later. Is there any reason for me t...

Re: Overclocking to improve playback performance?

I forgot to add that, to me, the overclocking and using the software OpenGL decoding and deinterlacing saw enough improvement that I don't find myself annoyed by the picture so I can just watch, enjoy, and not think about it.

Overclocking to improve playback performance?

I'm running overclocking tests and wonder if others have seen improvement with playback performance on a Raspberry PI 4 4GB Mythtv v31 Combo FE/BE. What I'm running: RPI 4 with 4GB RAM. Raspberry PI OS 32bit Mythtv v31 combo FE/BE built with these instructions: https://mythtv-rp4.blogspot.com/2020/1...

Re: pi4 on ubuntu for mythtv-backend

On my second attempt, which was successful I did a couple of things. 1. After I booted Ubuntu 20.04 from the USB3 SSD I changed the password as required and let it sit while the unattended upgrades did their thing. After all that completed, I then added the ppa:mythbuntu/31 and installed 'mythtv'. I...

Re: pi4 on ubuntu for mythtv-backend

@mythpi3 I tried this this morning and it mostly worked, but for some reason after adding the ppa:mythbuntu/31 and installing 'mythtv' with sudo apt install mythtv I ended up with the gdm and all the GUI stuff which doesn't seem to work. I was trying to change to console boot only when something got...

Re: pi4 on ubuntu for mythtv-backend

This gives me something to play with today :D I did the Ubuntu 20.04 on Pi thing a while back but had to build from source to get mythtv working. Sounds like it's better now. I did take your --no-allatonce point to heart and added it to my setup on Raspberry PI OS Lite. I've also added it to my inst...

Re: Chromecast with Google TV?

I have not tried it but did see a youtube.com video on installing Google TV on an Nvidia Shield TV to test it out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AyLSiIouWA&t=26s

It's side loaded just like the MythTV apps. If you're curious you can try it an then switch back.
