Re: mythtv-frontend volume

... Both mythfrontend and leanfront produce identical volume levels.... My wife normally uses Leanfront and has not complained. However, when I got her using Mythfrontend for Live TV, she started the complaining about the low volume level. On my Shield TV I drive the sound through a AV Receiver, bu...

Re: mythtv-frontend volume

I don't think this is native to the signal that is received by the tuners used by MythTV. If I use the SiliconDust HDHomerun app on FireTV 4k or Shield TV to play Live TV, it is the same volume level as all my other apps on those devices.

mythtv-frontend volume

I'm trying to balance the audio volume between all my applications on the FireTV 4k stick. The stick is connected to a Sony TV and using the built-in speakers. I find that when I switch to mythtv-frontend from other apps like SlingTV, Prime Video, Netflix, or Youtube, I have to raise the volume sign...

Re: Leanfront idle for backend shutdown?

I have seen over the years a number of problems posted that were related to the backend going to sleep. I've rarely had a Linux system come out of Sleep correctly 100% of the time. So I never use sleep. In fact my backend/NAS server has not been off for at least a year. If my math is right my backen...

Re: Backend install has missing link needed for optimize_mythdb

Thanks very much for sharing this script. For anyone else intending to use this don't do what Mr. Stupid here did. I printed out a copy of the post to make typing in easier, not realising the code box had a scroll bar, so only ending up with half the script. :o By the way, in the script there are t...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Case + Fan

if you search on Youtube.com you will find a bunch of Raspberry Pi 4 cooling solutions and they usually test them with stress tests and overclocking. I have had fans get loud due to bearings failing. I bought a bunch of them for $10 and they worked but did not cool as good as the ones I originally h...

It took jumping through some hoops to get MythTV v30 running. Unfortunately the video playback quality does not appear to be perfect in v30 either.
I guess that's why I took my FireTV 4K stick on my last trip.

Re: Overclocking to improve playback performance?

I definitely prefer mythfrontend for watching MythTV recordings. I recall you mentioned building a MythTV v30 RPi4 PVR for use when camping. Is MythTV v30 video playback better quality (for example, no judder)? I thought v30 was much better and you could run it from the RPI OS Desktop environment. ...

Re: Overclocking to improve playback performance?

agree with your assessment. Particularly on Kodi with kodi-pvr-mythtv addon. If you can stand the Kodi UI, then it's a good frontend for Mythtv.

Re: Raspberry PI version of Mythtv v31 still at v31.0-59?

very likely a typo. I can't check now because I have repurposed all my Raspberry Pis for other jobs. I don't use the RPI 4 for MythTV except in my RV when traveling and that's not possible right now due to the quarantine. So I'm just using my production MythTV backend with Nvidia Shield TV and FireT...

Today I enabled the GL (Fake KMS) OpenGL desktop driver and this seems to have made the biggest difference. The steps to enable the driver are: sudo raspi-config Then choose: 6. Advanced Options A2 GL Driver G2 GL (Fake KMS) OpenGL desktop driver with fake KMS When I chose OK, a driver was download...

Re: upgrade from scratch

I found some instructions I used several years ago when I migrated the database and recordings. You might want to compare these to what is current. 32. Since I was building a new Mythtv backend, I transferred over the old recordings to the new directories. 33. I ran a mythtv database backup on the o...

Re: upgrade from scratch

I'm thinking it's time to upgrade all my v28.2 boxes on ubuntu 16.04 to the latest myhttv (v31?) on 20.04. They will all be fresh installs from scratch. Will a database backup (to my NAS) from my v28.2 BE properly restore to my new v31 BE? Same hardware. Or will there be additional hoops to jump th...

If you use Mike's method just comment out the run_mythfrontend.sh in the .bashrc file. Then it boots to console. You can startx or run_mythfrontend.sh. Exiting mythtv or Desktop Environment takes you to console

Re: freeze when exit recordings

Not sure if this is your problem, but I know if you setup the RPI using the pi-utils that mike did https://github.com/MikeB2013/pi-utils , there is a fix for an exception on exit that is a QT problem that is still not fixed. If you follow his pi-utils method you end up running for the console with r...
