Re: Starting over with MythTV install on Mavericks

Patches welcome! ;)

The only other 'tuner' that works on OS X is Http Live Streaming and there isn't a lot of interesting content there.

Re: Starting over with MythTV install on Mavericks

I've been unsuccessful getting MythTV to install correctly, using either the stand-alone installer or MacPorts. I think I may have been running into issues because of previous installs of MySQL or mixing up the file paths between the two different install methods. At this point, what I want to do i...

Re: Database errors and recordings failing

Does OS X report a crash when the database error occurs? OS X crash reports are accessible through Console.app (Applications>Utilities).

It is possible that you are experiencing the issue in:

Re: Database errors

I don't think the database error is an OS X issue--perhaps a mod could move this post to Troubleshooting. Or maybe the United Kingdom section as it appears to occur during EIT processing. Regarding the other log snippet, I think that may also be related to EIT processing. EIT is feeding 'new' progra...

Re: Live TV and recordings not starting [SOLVED]

Thanks for reporting back and I'm glad it is working now. Regarding the instructions, it IS a wiki so you can (register and) edit yourself. Keep in mind that lots of people use the device ID without issues. Also that a potential user will have to ensure that their HDHomeruns are assigned fixed IP ad...

Re: MythTV cannot connect to database

Hello, I have installed MacPorts as per instructions and followed all instructions, MySql is showing in Activity Monitor and Time Zone Table has been successful so no problems there. I start MythTv Setup and the menu comes up where you put in COUNTRY and LANGUAGE, then goes to next screen where it ...

Re: Issues running multiple mythtv backends

Where do I find the following? You'll also need to check that the "networking" feature of MySQL is turned on. Check that /etc/mysql/my.cnf does not contain skip-networking. If it does, either remove that line or comment it out. Also verify that bind-address is set to your IP address instead of 127....

Re: Issues running multiple mythtv backends

Short answer: don't do that. You have two backends fighting over one tuner. There is no mechanism for them to share it. None. Choose one Mini as your backend and use the other as a frontend only. (Just turn off MySQL and mythbackend on what will be the frontend machine.) Make sure you've done the My...

Re: Live TV and recordings not starting

A tangent, but are you using your system disk for recordings? That is not recommended . By design, Myth wants to fill your recordings drive(s) with recordings--all but for a small buffer space. If you set the buffer big enough, you can probably get away with it. Much cleaner to have a separate disk....

Re: Live TV and recordings not starting

Are you saying that, after restarting the backend machine, myth can NEVER make a successful recording UNTIL you use Myth_Stop_Start to stop the backend service and then restart it? And that after that step, all is well? Short answer, don't reboot! ;) Seriously, my backend machine runs for months at ...

Re: Problems with OSX frontend - stutter/unusable

The backend is 0.27.1, right? Are you using the bundled OS X frontend from http://www.avenard.org/files/mythtv/mac/ Which version? You haven't enabled any weird settings like the Crystal HD decoder or Advanced 2X de-interlacer? Regardless, any MacBook Pro since 2007 will have enough grunt to play yo...

Re: Problems with OSX frontend - stutter/unusable

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee, but this is getting too difficult to follow. Are you saying that playback freezes on the the backend machine? Or did you run Fedora on the Mac that was freezing? Can we regroup for a minute? Please summarize the hardware and software of the backend and frontend. Wh...

Re: Live TV and recordings not starting

What tuner(s) are you using? I presume an HDHomerun (which model)? Unfortunately, I have no experience with these and I can't find a decent guide on the wiki. I suspect that something is askew in the tuner setup.

Re: Problems with OSX frontend - stutter/unusable

Can you mount the disk containing your recordings and try playing with VLC or similar? Also, have a look at the Network tab of Activity monitor while starting to play a recording. I think there should be a burst of activity when you press play as it tries to fill the buffer. It would be interesting ...
