Re: What's the recomended hardware to test MythTV on OSX?

If you want the machine to do development, I would think you want a quad-core (or better). You also probably want more RAM than you'd put in a typical Linux desktop. macOS is much snappier when it has sufficient RAM; the virtual memory system is not as efficient. Re cost versus life, keep resale val...

Re: What's the recomended hardware to test MythTV on OSX?

New or used? Do you want to test building Myth or running it? BTW, I'd suggest you don't go the Hackintosh route. It is possible to assemble a machine from off-the-shelf hardware and install macOS on it. (Apple rebranded the operating system from "OS X" to macOS a couple of years ago.) These work fo...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Very minor, but the first command can be just: sudo port install py38-ansible python38 is a dependency of py38-ansible and will be automatically installed. BTW, when people install MacPorts, many of them miss that they need to run a command to get an up-to-date registry of all ports that are availab...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Not sure but is py38-pymysql a functional replacement (ie a "pure python" version)?

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

@jhoyt I think the patch may have a number of redundant entries. MacPorts is pretty good about walking down the recursive dependency list so you may not need to specify every dep. Also, I haven't looked at the Qt5 playbook. This could be a nightmare for different versions of OSX. The most recent Qt5...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Couple of quick observations on the patch. The MythTV OSX port doesn't use X11 or pulseaudio; stuff internal to OSX is used (CoreVideo/VideoToolbox + CoreAudio). Also, video for linux doesn't exist on OSX. Those running a backend are almost all using HDhomerun boxes from Silicondust. A very few (1?)...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

Hmm, thought I already posted this, but...

Excellent work figuring out the blocker. It can be maddening trying to determine which one of a host of possibilities is standing in your way.

Just for greater clarity, could you please post the output of 'mythfrontend --version'?

Thanks,

Craig

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

@bill6502 There is no 'nix-style package management system on a stock macOS system. There are several options for users that want to install one. The two leading ones would be Homebrew and MacPorts. They take quite different approaches to package management, however. Both Homebrew and MacPorts suppo...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Congrats! Minor point, but would you please participate in the MacPorts users stats initiative? If you install and load the mpstats port, the system will automatically submit an anonymous snapshot of the ports installed, plus the version of Xcode and whatnot: https://ports.macports.org/port/mpstats/...

Re: Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

The OSX builder is running OSX 10.15.3 and XCode 11.3.1. I built fixes/31 on that machine, and I can successfully start mythfrontend, play recordings, play videos, and play music. What video profile are you using? With fixes/31 it should probably be "VideoToolBox Normal", although none of the other...

Re: Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

I would start with the default verbose setting. I believe you said it crashes when you attempt to start playback of either a recording or video, right? Please just confirm what was your last action before the program crashed.

Also, which version of Xcode are you using?
