Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Is this the X11 missing item you're mentioning? ld: warning: directory not found for option '-L/opt/X11/lib' Myth on macOS shouldn't need X11 at all. I think this is just an extraneous linker option that has crept in. Strangely, I checked on the 31/fixes buildbot and it does not seem to report this ...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

I saw the new thread. Symptoms are different than I previously saw but this is 2 years later. From the log, I noticed that Myth is complaining about a missing font. I'm not quite sure where it would need to be installed in the app bundle, but Dejavu is available from MacPorts if you want: https://po...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

That too would be a markk issue. I would expect he'd want a mythfrontend log, probably with '-v playback'. Maybe the code needs a tweak to deal with Retina screens. BTW, when I bashed my head 1.5 years ago trying to make version 29 work, there were problems with only 1/4 of the screen being displaye...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

@jhoyt With your freshly built app, did I understand that the video output settings (OpenGL, VideoToolbox) are _not_ set by default? If so, I believe this would be considered a bug and is a trivial thing to fix. @markk would, I'm pretty sure, be the right person to poke.

Re: Building Mythtv 31 with Ansible

You are right. It was a change in MythTV 31:

Re filters, are they not under .../lib/mythtv/filters ? Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Also includes an add of the hdhomerun library and calls to "port selfupdate" and "port upgrade outdated" which should addresses Craig's most recent post ... I'm not sure if the 'port upgrade outdated' is necessary. Do we expect that someone using the ansible playbook will re-run the playbook comman...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

Sorry, I think you mean Xcode versions 11.3.1 and 11.4.1. AFAICT, Xcode 10.x doesn't run on macOS 10.15.

https://trac.macports.org/wiki/XcodeVersionInfo

Other than that quibble, great work!

Re: What's the recomended hardware to test MythTV on OSX?

If you want the machine to do development, I would think you want a quad-core (or better). You also probably want more RAM than you'd put in a typical Linux desktop. macOS is much snappier when it has sufficient RAM; the virtual memory system is not as efficient. Re cost versus life, keep resale val...

Re: What's the recomended hardware to test MythTV on OSX?

New or used? Do you want to test building Myth or running it? BTW, I'd suggest you don't go the Hackintosh route. It is possible to assemble a machine from off-the-shelf hardware and install macOS on it. (Apple rebranded the operating system from "OS X" to macOS a couple of years ago.) These work fo...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Very minor, but the first command can be just: sudo port install py38-ansible python38 is a dependency of py38-ansible and will be automatically installed. BTW, when people install MacPorts, many of them miss that they need to run a command to get an up-to-date registry of all ports that are availab...

Not sure but is py38-pymysql a functional replacement (ie a "pure python" version)?

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

@jhoyt I think the patch may have a number of redundant entries. MacPorts is pretty good about walking down the recursive dependency list so you may not need to specify every dep. Also, I haven't looked at the Qt5 playbook. This could be a nightmare for different versions of OSX. The most recent Qt5...

Re: [Solved] Building Mythtv 31.x on Catalina

Couple of quick observations on the patch. The MythTV OSX port doesn't use X11 or pulseaudio; stuff internal to OSX is used (CoreVideo/VideoToolbox + CoreAudio). Also, video for linux doesn't exist on OSX. Those running a backend are almost all using HDhomerun boxes from Silicondust. A very few (1?)...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

Hmm, thought I already posted this, but...

Excellent work figuring out the blocker. It can be maddening trying to determine which one of a host of possibilities is standing in your way.

Just for greater clarity, could you please post the output of 'mythfrontend --version'?

Thanks,

Craig
