Re: mythtv31 and schedules Direct

It does appear in the v31 Release Notes and was discussed on the user's mailing list as well (as you point out) here: https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3384 . Wild guess, none of the folks that really need it read logs and perhaps the system status page. Code changes that add warnings <m...

Re: When is disk usage updated on View Recordings menu?

The recording may not be deleted, rather it's moved to the Auto Expire list. Then when the backend needs space the recording (metadata and associated files) will get deleted. That's the way I run. You can change that in recording rules. Or if you want all newly created rules to turn tha feature off,...

Re: My experience and questions with the Raspberry Pi 4

Just note that a $HOME isn't required for the mythtv user. It's
one way to locate the directory that has things like config.xml
(and many other files and directories.)

Re: How do I change the upnp server name?

Interesting. I regret to inform you that leaving the changes in place
will void your MythTV warranty ;). On software upgrade the changes
will probably go away though. I do note that with an external program,
my display prefixes the friendlyName with the host's name and colon.

Re: Error Moving Database to New Host

"Copying" mythconverg isn't supported or recommended. But the initial post here says a backup was restored. That's good. Ref: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore Review or pastebin/attach the full backend log. /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log . That will have a line like this: Usi...

Re: How do I change the upnp server name?

I'm guessing there aren't any UPnP gurus here (and I'm not). The best I can come up with is: No it can't be changed via the GUI or in the settings table. If you wan't to makes some test, start here: /usr/share/mythtv/devicemaster.xml. Could be /usr/local depending on your installation. I see referen...

Re: Unable to connect to database error, FreeBSD 12.1

Hi, I'm guessing that the log snippet above is mythfrontend.log or command line output. It says the FE was able to connect to the DB using localhost to locate the DB server. And it was successful. Then it retrieved the IP of the BE (BE 172.24.153.2 in the log). That's what failed. See if mythbackend...

Re: Moving old recordings to new box.

@ lowlandmyth, if you have backups of the mythconverg DB and if you can
mount the partition they live on, you can restore the DB on the new host and
keep the recording metadata.

Re: Can't get backend up and running

The error message in the initial post is at least one cause (the fourth one down with the E.)

The backend wasn't configured as a master, thus couldn't upgrade the DB.

Could not create /nonexistent/.mythtv The directory is based on the value of the user's home entry in /etc/password. Unless HOME is specifically set before calling the program. Note that MYTHCONFDIR can be set, which overrides HOME. It isn't in this case as there's no log line containing: "Read con...

Re: Schema issue on new Xubuntu 20 system using 31+fixes from mythbuntu

That helped. (LoadScan 2) narrows it down to tickets 8774 and 13472 and commit c970d58 which removed service_type on April 27th 2020. See if you can tell what version you're running. mythbackend --version may help, but I don't know if Ubuntu will have the current commit in the output. It would look ...

Re: Daily mythfilldatabase update not running.

Really good question. None of the packaging repos add it and the
MythTV repo itself doesn't add it.

I know you said: "clean install of OS and v31", but did you restore the DB from
an existing backup after the install?

Re: Schema issue on new Xubuntu 20 system using 31+fixes from mythbuntu

Updating v29-> v31 is fine. When you said "system running on Debian for a LLOONNGG time" and mentioned 2006, I assumed a much earlier version. Your process was just fine too. When mythtv-setup runs and finds it's necessary to upgrade, it backs up the current DB: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_...
