Re: Going to try mythTV

Frontends or not, I'm more concerned with the scheduler and guide data processing, especially with as many channels you have on a digital cable system.

It's advisable to not run a low-end system like an Atom as your primary backend.

Re: Going to try mythTV

That depends on what you want. Do you just want one system in front of your TV? Do you want systems connected to multiple TVs? How much storage (in hours) are you looking for? How many simultaneous recordings and Live TV instances are you looking for? Are you planning on transcoding content for mobi...

Re: Composite input on a slave backend not working

Did you start mythbackend on the slave? Is the slave backend properly pointed at the single database server? Is the slave backend configured to listen on a network-accessible address (not 192.0.0.1)? Did you specify an external channel changer to allow MythTV to tune this external device you are cap...

Re: Issues running multiple mythtv backends

Indeed. The whole purpose of MythTV's network-transparent architecture is that you don't have to have backends and access to tuners on both machine.

Re: What setting for AverTV Volar Green

You shouldn't type anything. MythTV should be autodetecting the device, and populating that field for you. Is the device working properly? Do you have anything in "/dev/dvb/"? Does 'dmesg' report any issues when the driver loads? LinuxTV suggests users must manually install firmware before that devi...

Re: USB tv tuner

You have to give some more information first. What you are intending to capture will decide what kind of TV tuner you need.

Re: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' (using passw

MythTV does provide instructions on database configuration on a source install. The Mythbuntu packages bypass much of the manual database configuration, and should set this all up for you automatically. When this goes awry, consult Mythbuntu, not MythTV.

The easiest solution, just use the Mythbuntu daily builds.

Re: NULL audio in frontend and unable to Rescan

Pulseaudio is just a sound server. It has no hardware support. It sits as a layer between ALSA and applications. MythTV prefers to hit ALSA directly rather than go through that extra layer.

Re: remote frontend fails to connect

There's the backend server, and then there's the database server. It sounds like you are correctly pointing at the database server, but the settings defined in your database specify that the backend server is at 127.0.0.1. See the first page under General in mythtv-setup.

Re: Building my first HTPC under OSX or Linux. Need advice.

The Ceton ETH at least requires no drivers. The rest behave as a network card, and you communicate with it over the internal virtual network (DCR-2650 behaves the same), but whether those have OSX drivers or not, I do not know.

Re: Building my first HTPC under OSX or Linux. Need advice.

MythTV has no support for the capture APIs in OSX, so there are no compatible ATSC tuners. The only tuners that will work on an OSX system are, as mentioned, network-attached tuners that MythTV communicates directly with. That likely includes the Ceton tuners as well, but those are only useful for d...

The script does not read anything, the Perl bindings do, and the Perl bindings read config.xml.

Have you configured your database server to listen on the network in the my.cnf file?
