Re: What Card Or Box To Buy?

The WinTV-HVR-955Q will not work with most cable tv channels. With Comcast in South Florida, it will not work with any channels since Comcast has encrypted all channels (no Clear QAM channels). Generally with cable tv in the USA, a cablecard tuner is needed. https://www.fcc.gov/guides/digital-cable-...

Re: dish OTA DVR receiver

gonfishin, One option you may want to consider is to keep the case and hard drive, and replace the motherboard. I did this with a TiVo described at the site linked below. The remote could possibly be reused also. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=9890288#post9890288 tivo1.jpg tiv...

Re: Can I stop Theme Chooser Automatic updates?

I have a modified Mythbuntu mainmenu.xlm file in my home folder under /home/ted/.mythtv/ . I update the Mythbuntu theme when an update is available, and it keeps the modifications. From http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hulu_Desktop_Integration : Copying XML files from /usr/share/mythtv into ~/.mythtv allo...

Re: Add MythTV Menu Button That Launches YouTube

From http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/menu_theme_development_guide with an example: To execute an external program through the MythTV menus and tell MythTV to ignore LIRC button presses until the program exits, add an EXEC action to the desired menu: <button> <type>DVD</type> <text>Watch DVD</text> <actio...

Re: Netflix now Native on Linux: MythTV Frontend Integration

I don't have Netflix streaming to test it, but how about adding a shortcut in the MythTV menu that launches Chrome in kiosk mode and opens the Netflix site similar to how the description at the link below shows how to do this with YouTube?

Yes. HBO, etc. The only regular channel that is copy protected in Comcast's South Florida area is MoviePlex. All other regular channels like ESPN and CNN are fine.

Re: xfinity cisco rng150n , hauppauge 1212, channel changing

I hope you get it to work the way you want. If not, have you considered a CableCard? Xfinity (Comcast) usually only copy protects the premium channels. Are you using the box to get premium channels? I am using a Hauppauge CableCard tuner with Comcast, and it works great. An added benefit, if your pa...

Re: Going to try mythTV

Most people would not want to do this, but if you want to save money, you can build an HTPC with a used TiVo case and hard drive with a new motherboard. Due to TiVo's service oriented business model, TiVo hardware can frequently be found at a very low price on Craigslist and other places. Last year ...

Add MythTV Menu Button That Launches YouTube

Using OpenELEC 4.0.2 with XBMC. Whenever I go to TV it says there are no PVRs enabled but it is enabled in my PVR Addons. I'm using an HDHomeRun Prime and XBMC and MythTV are on the same box. I have it the other way around with XBMC installed on Mythbuntu. It was fairly easy to set up. Screenshot1....
