Re: Where is MySQL

There is generally no need to be concerned about or do anything with the database. In addition to the helpful forum post you mentioned, there are example installation steps from myself here and from Jim A here. Which step are you getting stuck on?

Re: Where is MySQL

Yes, entering the following commands in the terminal includes the installation of the database:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mythbuntu/30
sudo apt install mythtv

Re: HDHomeRun Quatro HDHR5-4DT no channels

I'm not familiar with the Quatro, but with the HDHomeRun Prime, I do it as described here.

Re: Atom CPU Enough Power?

Maybe with a few channels, not many tuners and light guide data. I used an Atom D2550 with a GeForce GT 610 GPU for a combined frontend and backend system, but rwagner did not like that idea as described here. It worked quite well.

Re: intermittent back end connection problem

Ubuntu 14.04 is a bit old. Consider installing 18.04. Is the backend and frontend set to use "localhost" and not an ip address in Setup --> General? If the frontend is automatically starting, maybe a delay could help (bash -c "sleep 20 && mythfrontend --service").

Re: Some questions

Some helpful example installation steps can be found here for using an SSD for files other than recordings. The referenced blog post is for v29, but many of the steps are needed for v30 also if you are using *buntu.

I have previously used Xubuntu with MythTV, but I recently installed MythTV v30 using the ppa on Ubuntu 18.04. I used the minimal install option when installing Ubuntu. All appears well so far.

Re: [SOLVED] How On Earth Do You Get It Working?

The Mythbuntu ppa on Launchpad builds from the source on GitHub. For v30-fixes, the changes can be viewed at https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commits/fixes/30.

Re: Live TV / tuners won't record

While on the same network as the Prime, open a web browser and visit http://my.hdhomerun.com. Click on the HDHR Prime. View the lineup, and look for "DRM." Scan for channels, look for "DRM" again, and look for any changes.

Did you stop the backend before running mythtv-setup? Maybe one of these will help:

Intel Chips are Getting Slower

The patches for Meltdown, Spectre and now ZombieLoad are making the chips run slower. Just about every unpatched computer with an Intel chip dating back to 2011 is vulnerable. According to multiple sources, Intel has indicated the patch for ZombieLoad would impact performance by about three to nine ...

Re: What channel frequency do I use for RCN on a HDHomerun Prime tuner

Don't scan for channels in MythTV when using a HDHomeRun Prime. Instead, use the Prime's web page interface using an internet browser to scan for channels. Then, use Schedules Direct or mythfilldatabase to add all channels to MythTV. The encrypted channels will work with MythTV if the copy protectio...

Re: Xubuntu 16.04 and Mythbuntu 16.04 End of Life This Month

I have always opted for Xubuntu for my MythTV systems. For my new back+frontend box, I opted this time for Ubuntu 18.04 using the minimal install option due to the longer service life. I hope it goes smoothly. I am using an Asus board installed in a modified TiVo Roamio case with a 7th generation i3...

Re: QAM Channels

MythTV works with encrypted QAM using a cablecard tuner if the copy protection flag is set to copy freely. In general, Comcast channels other than the premium channels like HBO are this way and work with MythTV.
