Time for a customized Pi 3B+ Image with MythLight?

Life intervened and I haven't had a chance to finish my documentation of getting smooth and (mostly) reliable playback on my Pi 3B+ yet. In the mean time thought I ran across this amazing tool: https://www.pibakery.org/index.html It looks like it would be trivial to build a complete image with MythL...

Re: SOLVED (ish): Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

I'm back with another update. Once I upgraded to .30 of the Myth tree the issues returned. I have -largely- mitigated them by switching the de-interlacer in the playback profile to HW Fast. I did this my creating a new playback profile and selecting it. Still, with 1080i HD OTA content I get a very ...

Pi Zero W

Is there any chance a Pi Zero W could function as MythLight FE? I realize the main CPU is severely constrained but I believe it has the full HW decode capabilities of the other Pis? I'm anticipating a slow GUI but playback being ok?

Re: .29 Mythlight Frontend does not work with .30 Backend

Excellent background, thanks for sharing the link. The final poster there makes a really good point: "Further clarification: I'm still very much in favor of converting nearly all frontend interaction with the backends to use API calls *and* to begin supporting some backward compatibility there." How...

Re: Overnight Hangs - How do you log to the backend server?

The power supply should be ok but I can check with my voltmeter. It is the 2.5A supply included in the Canakit: https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-3-starter-kit.html

Unless it is malfunctioning I believe that should be lots of juice?

Will do. I need to read through the process and set up the appropriate account etc. so it will be a day or two as I have commitments the rest of the day.

Re: White flicker on every key press in menu navigation with .30

I am 99% sure the flicker is frontend config related, but for the sake of thoroughness, the backend version (LinHES 8.6 release) is: [jac@mythtv ~]$ mythbackend --version Please attach all output as a file in bug reports. MythTV Version : v30.0-34-g81081957a0 MythTV Branch : fixes/30 Network Protoco...

Re: SOLVED (ish): Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

I am almost done my first draft of the detailed install and tweaks for MythLight on the Pi 3 for version .30. Since the options changed from those referenced above, I wanted to mention that I had to turn my audio read ahead buffer level under Setup > Video > Playback > Advanced up to 1000 ms in orde...

White flicker on every key press in menu navigation with .30

BE (LinHES distro) and FE (MythLight packages from Peter's repo) are upgraded to .30. I am mostly done documenting my "from scratch" setup on the Pi 3 and I have things largely working, but I have run in to an annoying bug or oddity that I haven't been able to resolve (was not present with .29 MythL...

Re: MythTV-light not changing display mode for recordings/video

Are there any settings required to activate the advanced deinterlace capability in the Openmax Normal profile or is it enabled by default?

Re: Overnight Hangs - How do you log to the backend server?

Does Myth log through syslog? Would it be a simple matter of configuring rsyslog on the FE and pointing it to an rsyslog instance on the backend?

Re: .29 Mythlight Frontend does not work with .30 Backend

I had a feeling (and vague recollection) that it was the case that the FE and BE versions always had to match, but you are correct, I wasn't able to find explicit confirmation of that anywhere so I wanted to post something for others searching to find. This is important for users who have multiple F...

.29 Mythlight Frontend does not work with .30 Backend

This is more a confirmation of information than a question. I did some quick googling and looking around the forum and I couldn't see a clear answer so I took a swing at booting my .29 Mythlight Pi3 frontend after a (shockingly smooth) upgrade of my LinHES based .29 backend to the new LinHES 8.6 rel...

Overnight Hangs - How do you log to the backend server?

Now that I've for my Pi3 running Mythlight .29 working reliably for playback, I've noticed another problem. Every few days it is hanging. Last night around 3am it appears to have locked up. I can't ssh to it but the TCP/IP stack is still up as it responds to pings. Is there a quick way to have it lo...

Re: SOLVED (ish): Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

It is surprising if disabling extra audio buffering helps. Perhaps your system is very low on memory. Have you set a very high value for gpu memory? I recommend 256 MB. Do you have other things running on the raspberry pi? Nothing else running on it that isn't running on a stock Raspbian install wi...
