Re: silence.preset settings for short commercial breaks

Concentrating on what the wiki https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Commercial_detection_with_silences states Algorithm An advert is defined as a cluster of silences, at least <minbreak> long, that is composed of at least <mindetect> silences that occur within <maxsep> of each other. In practice, silences ar...

silence.preset settings for short commercial breaks

I have been using slilence.py for some time now but it often has trouble finding the commercials in late night shows that tend to have shorter commercial breaks than during the day/evening on the same channel e.g. the Paramount channel the commercials on late night shows can be less than 50s and eve...

Re: upgrading to MythTV 30

30 is the current version. You have the correct ppa. It is just the text on ppa 30 page, it has not yet been updated (it was correct when 0.29 was the current release). Thanks for the reassurance . Note: if running 0.29 and upgrading via the mythbuntu 30 ppa you need to run "sudo apt dist-upgrade" ...

upgrading to MythTV 30

I managed to update my secondary backend to MythTV v30 while updating other software, so I bit the bullet and upgraded my main backend and frontend. I got the "You are enabling the development version of MythTV... HERE BE DRAGONS" message after sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mythbuntu/30 sudo apt upgra...

Re: How To: Convert mythcommflag markers to chapter marks within

Cutting out commercials is the way that I do it with my script. I do have to manually adjust the markers before cutting, but that is not much hassle. I can't imagine that watching your transcodes with bookmarks would be much fun because you can't watch the programme uninterrupted without wondering i...

lost connection to videos storage group

I just lost connection to my videos storage group while trying to access videos and now it has lost a lot of metadata on the videos. I have tried to scan for changes and it is taking an awfully long time to scan and re-select the correct shows. Is there any shortcut to doing this? Maybe copying a ta...

Re: HEVC decoding via VDPAU inside MythTV

OK, after further experimentation I have found that I can use HEVC decoding via VDPAU inside MythTV with my hardware and current build of MythTv as long as it is 8bit and not 10bit encodes (that's what I was missing). However, I see that things may be different in MythTV 30:- "Hardware accelerated H...

Re: How to deal with frequency change

what's the "usual way"? Well, I don't know if it is usual but I delete all channels and re-scan every so often (few months). I renumber the channels after the scan using a script developed by someone else as it is a pain to manually re-order all the channels and xmltvid's. https://www.mythtv.org/wik...

Re: HEVC decoding via VDPAU inside MythTV

OK, pgbennett, so are you saying that it won't work with mythtv-frontend amd64 2:29.1+fixes.201812281328.af5d819 and I would have to install the latest master source?

Re: HEVC decoding via VDPAU inside MythTV

Hi, I just came across this thread and wanted to test out HEVC decoding via VDPAU inside MythTV. I have a GTX1050Ti which should be capable. I have updated to mythtv-frontend amd64 2:29.1+fixes.201812281328.af5d819 I am using the VDPAU high quality playback setting I have a video file which shows th...

UK freesat E4 channel failing to record

I have been finding that UK freesat E4 channel is failing to record/tune in on my setup. I have recently done a tuned channel scan using my TBS 6981 dual. I also have an omicom S2 which won't record/tune into this channel either. Other channels on the same frequency 10714.25 record/ tune OK. I had a...

Re: themecache of unusually large size

Thanks paulh.
I am using a low capacity SSD for root and home and most of my recordings go to another backend raid array, so the space on the SSD is a concern. I will think about moving home to a larger capacity drive in future if the cache files build up quickly.

themecache of unusually large size

I was looking at the disk space usage on my main MythTV frontend machine and noticed that [user]/.MythTV was taking up a large amount of space. It appears that I have over 10GB space used in /home/[user]/.mythtv/themecache/Terra.1920.1080/ and /home/[user]/.mythtv/cache/themecache/Terra.1920.1080/ w...

Re: pctv 292e tripplestick no HD channels in mythtv 29

Well, I don't know why but that did work. I scanned twice, once from the HD stick and once from a non HD card to the same freeview video source. Then I swapped the freeview and the freeview HD video source names back to what they should be. I made sure that the freeview SD card input connection was ...
