Aspect wrong, whose fault? (channel? epg? myth?)

I've got a few channels where recorded programs play with the wrong aspect ratio. I can override it to the correct ratio when playing, but I'm wondering where MythTV gets the data for aspect ratio. Is it from the channel itself? Or from the channel info from SchedulesDirect? Or somewhere else? I thi...

Error concealment?

Anybody familiar with this, and know if it is possible to configure the system to use it? Basically, when data is missing from a stream, it makes a "guess" to try to make the image look a bit better, I think. I've been googling this since I found a reference to it, but not yet sure if/how I can use ...

Re: how to "rescan" on MythTV

I haven't had to deal with this because the channels in my area had moved (in August) before I got my system running to the point of scheduling recordings. Not sure if there is another phase coming. I did run some rescans while setting the system up, didn't have to delete anything first, and didn't ...

Re: mythTV fails to save recordings

So it appears to record, gives no errors or failures, shows the recording in the watch list, but can't find the file when you try to play it? I assume you've searched your system for the actual .ts file? That it's not created in the expected directory? (Or is created in an unexpected directory?) Doe...

Re: Not finding my mainmenu.xml?

~/.mythtv/themes/defaultmenu/mainmenu.xml is correct. Didn't work the first time so I put it on the back burner, but got back to it the other day. At first, it prevented mythfrontend from starting, so I watched the log and it complained about a '&' at the end of my exec command, so I took that out a...

Re: Is s/n better higher or lower?

I recall in the past the S/N values were not directly comparable between diff drivers/tuner cards. That's what I've just been reading, that there's no one standard for the numbers reported by the drivers. Mine's a Hauppauge WinTV QuadHD. S/N is always shown as about 2.5dB, for all channels, but BE ...

Is s/n better higher or lower?

I've been searching and can't find where this is documented. I'm talking about the message that pops up when you begin watching a channel, that says: Signal nn% | S/N n.ndB | BE n I know it's signal to noise ratio, but is higher or lower better? What numbers are considered marginal, good, best? Wher...

Case sensitivity/insensitivity in MySQL queries?

I've noticed some queries are automatically case-insensitive and others are not. For instance, program.category. If you're querying for 'Comedy', it will also match if your query string uses 'comedy'. But people need capitalization in their names. people.name='samuel l. jackson' will find no results...

Re: Restrict tuner to certain channels

I have a single physical tuner with a completely separate VHF directional antenna on it, dedicated to picking up one OTA station ... That's great. Completely separate antenna/coax/tuner optimized for one "weak" station, and another antenna/coax/multi-tuner (maybe) for the rest. I almost had to do s...

Re: Here's how to recreate category_type from recorded table

category only holds a single value. So if it's been labelled "Comedy" then it isn't a movie (even though you may disagree). Right, but category_type could be 'movie'. There's no need to create Recording Groups merely to organise by category. The "Change Filter" already allows you to filter by categ...

Re: Fixing playback glitches, breakups, etc?

For the recording I said was "stuttering"... Turns out, it's in the original recording. When I pause and play frame-by-frame, you will have several crystal-clear frames, then two or three frames together where the image appears to be a blending of two consecutive frames (blurry, with a ghost image) ...

Re: Fixing playback glitches, breakups, etc?

For the recordings that broke up to a bluish-greenish screen of "junk", switching back to VAAPI solved it. I'll have to keep an eye out for the other glitches I thought I saw with VAAPI. For some other recordings that had "pixel noise," it seemed to play the same in software, vaapi, and vaapi2 mode....

Re: Here's how to recreate category_type from recorded table

Not as flexible as I had hoped, but it will do for now, for a few category/category_type values. Template rule 'Documentary' with recording group 'Documentary' should group all documentaries regardless of category_type Template rule 'movie' with recording group 'movie' should group all movies, excep...

Re: Here's how to recreate category_type from recorded table

Are you saying that a recording template can automatically assign a newly scheduled recording to a specific recording group, based on category_type and/or other fields?

If so, I think that's what I'm looking for.

@wmorrison, thank you for the suggestion! LinHes installed, setup, and recorded with ease. Plus, it took a single click to share recordings over the network. Again, thank you for the suggestion.
Glad it worked. I liked LinHES, just wasn't right for me.
