Re: Builds

Thanks. I guess I need to patch the script to find our copy of mysqldump. MacPorts does some gyrations to allow multiple databases/versions to be installed concurrently so mysqldump isn't in the typical place.

Didn't know about the debug output, either.

Right, the Perl script 1st (in the shared directory) then mysqldump, which could be a $PATH issue.
Am I right that it uses a hard-coded path to look for the Perl script? Can it be changed to respect PREFIX as defined in configure?

Re: Builds

Hmmm, dbutil.cpp hasn't been touched in 3 years: https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/tree/fixes/29/mythtv/libs/libmythbase The Mac version has never been able to run the automatic database backup. I think it expects to find '/usr/local/bin/mysqldump' but, of course, ours is not located there. It has ne...

Re: Builds

I believe I have a working 29.1 build for MacPorts; I just need to do a little more testing (a couple of bugs which I think are core Myth, rather than the build process), and then I'll be passing my updates to Craig for implementing into the MacPorts release. I hope to have my end done within the n...

Re: v0.29 Mythtv released

As of today, there are 565 open tickets in MythTV's Trac: https://code.mythtv.org/trac/query As I think I suggested before, the best way to get started contributing to Myth is to submit a patch that fix a problem (or 12). Or submit a new ticket with a clean patch adding a useful new feature. Follow ...

Re: v0.29 Mythtv released

Yes, there is such an installer, but it does not behave like a regular app, does not install in normal OSX directories, doesn't work with all the plugins, etc. But it is a lot better than it used to be, since no more terminal commands, good job there. My understanding is it's subject to the same ol...

... However, a stand-alone installer / single application target would certainly significantly lower the barrier to entry. You do realize that there is just such an installer for MythTV 0.28, right? https://sourceforge.net/projects/macportsmythtvinstaller/?source=navbar I had hoped that sfatula mig...

It used to be in the app store, not sure why it was removed...
MythTV has never been in the Mac App Store, ever. Not sure what you think you saw but it was not the frontend or backend.

Re: Recommended OTA tuners?

I've been running HDHomerun boxes for about 10 years and I'm very happy. The Silicondust people wrote the MythTV interface software--channel changing included. I have mine together with my networking gear as the cableco and OTA line are both in the same spot. I have all this stuff on a small UPS so ...

Re: v0.29 Mythtv released

I intend to but real life keeps getting in the way of my hobby. Frankly, another issue is that 29 doesn't include anything that I really find compelling.

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Release_Notes_-_29

0.28 is still supported and we're not losing much but staying with it.

Re: MythBackend Unstable Connection

I'm not very familiar with your OS, but... Is "frikkie" at 192.168.0.2 ? On frikkie, what are the contents of /root/.mythtv/config.xml ? Use top to check on frikkie that you are only running 1 copy of mythbackend. When you reboot the machine, does one copy come up automatically? You ran the mythback...

Re: MythBackend Unstable Connection

'--verbose' controls which myth activities will be logged. Run mythbackend -v help to get a list of all the verbose options. I think the one you want is "network" but I could be wrong. Note that you can log more than one area at once, eg '--verbose network, socket, general' '--loglevel' determines how...

Is there possibly a place to turn on more detailed logging, like a trace level. I am hoping that if I can do that I might be able to find which setting I have got wrong?

Re: Builds

You didn't answer, though, whether you're creating a dmg/pkg installer? Are you doing that now? Or is this a direction you want to go (viz the Mac App Store)? What do you mean "The script uses neither /usr nor /opt, it installs into whatever directory the users wants like other Mac software." I thin...
