Re: Backend on Pi 4

I went ahead and decided to test whether or not it would be silly for me to run mythjobqueue on rpi3 mythtv-light v31 while my pi4 runs mythbackend on mythtv-light v30. I just ran a test for a commercial detection job on the rpi3 and it seemed to work fine. My concern at the moment is that the pass...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Thanks for the update. Would it be silly of me to consider trying to upgrade to v31 a "slave backend" using mythjobqueue instead of mythbackend while leaving the master backend v30? I use kodi on a shield as my main frontend and I'm not certain of compatibility with v31 yet...

Re: Another question about Pi 4 as backend

Mike, I compiled the v31, everything works, including the commercial flagging. Absolutely happy with this cut, very clean. And your script saved me a lot of time, thank you. I think I am going to test this for the next few days then will migrate my v26.4 (2015) over. I think the only table I need t...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

For commercial flagging there is an open ticket https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13476 Mike Thanks for the heads up. Out of curiosity is this because the pi4 doesn't have hardware mpeg2 decoding? I have a pi3 with the mpeg2 license, so if I configure it as a slave backend, would it be able to ru...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

I've just configured the 4 GB pi4 with a 1 TB USB 3.0 HDD (not even sure of the rpm) that is powered over the USB port (HDTB410XK3AA). It is concurrently recording 3 HD streams while concurrently producing an HD live tv stream to Kodi on an Nvidia Shield. I am not noticing any stuttering. top cpu us...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

FYI, I'm planning to try a 4GB Pi4 this weekend as a backend and if successful, I will report back how well commflagging works (or doesn't work).

Re: Backend on Pi 4

I agree that commercial detection is not as reliable as I would like, but I think that it helps me more than 50% of the time. I am also curious whether 2-4 simultaneous HDHomerun MPEG-2 recordings if an rpi4 would be able to handle it when compared to my current machine with a 7 year old: Asus M5A7...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

IMHO commercial flagging doesn't work well enough on USA OTA ATSC programming to be worth the CPU cycles. It misses about half the commercials so you still have to manually do it. So it's turned off even on my production core i7 backend. I agree that commercial detection is not as reliable as I wou...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Dare I ask: how well does commercial flagging work on a Pi 4? I am also curious about this. I've never used slave backends, but I was also wondering if it would be possible to queue commflagging on the pi primary backend and setup a more powerful machine as a slave backend to wake up at a certain t...

Re: mythbackend v30 segmentation fault and/or deadlock

Thanks for the update. It's been a very long time since my distro updated any mythtv packages, so hopefully this will be recompiled or it will be updated to 31 when it is released.

Re: Metadata lookup causes Backend to deadlock

@pgbennett, I believe this thread is also related: https://forum.mythtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3020&p=14876#p14876 It still happens from time to time to me, but my script automatically restarts the backend when it does. It typically results in the recording being disrupted around the 1 minute mark...

Re: [Solved] Computer does not turn on after setting alarm with rtcwake (Ubuntu 18.04)

I am using a distro named Linhes which is based on arch. I've experimented and found for me the best kernel option so far is hpet=disable without the bit about tsc. I actually had to update a header file in /etc/grub.d in my distro as the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT was not applied to the menu item I...

Re: [Solved] Computer does not turn on after setting alarm with rtcwake (Ubuntu 18.04)

jhmgbl, what fixed it for you? I had a similar issue when I upgraded a kernel version in Arch Linux with motherboard: M5A78L-M LX3 I made a script to use wake-on-lan from a raspberry pi to wake my machine instead. For me: $ cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource tsc So ...
