Re: Remote as mouse? More control with the IR remote...

I second MikeB2013's suggestion about using a mini-keyboard for your remote control. When I put together my first MythTV system many years ago, I setup everything for using an IR remote with LIRC. I used it a short while at first but soon found I wanted a full keyboard occasionally. I had a Logitech...

Re: questions about upgrading v28 on UBUNTU 16.04LTS to v29 on UBUNTU 18.04LTS

Bill, thank you for the response that helped me fix my problem. I've been using MythTV for a decade, so I should have tried that already, but it had run without any problems for so long, I had gotten rusty and forgotten to try the obvious. With the verbose logging, I got some new information that al...

Re: can not set channels to look at antenna or input. of choice. I have 4 hdhomeruns to 4 antennas.

I used to have a similar situation, but with only 2 outside antennas. I set up two different lineups in SchedulesDirect and then used the appropriate one for the two tuners I had on each feed. In SchedulesDirect you can delete/select the channels for each one that you want to receive. For example yo...

Re: Donating to MythTV?

I was searching to see if MythTV had a way to donate to help fund the development, but all I found was this forum thread, so I am posting a reply to raise this question again in the forum. The idea of donating hardware, such as new tuners to test, sounds great in theory, except that the person donat...

Re: questions about upgrading v28 on UBUNTU 16.04LTS to v29 on UBUNTU 18.04LTS

Thanks Mike for the advice and info. For others that are considering this same upgrade of both UBUNTU and MythTV together, mine went pretty easy. The great news is that now I am getting the closed captions fine for the Comcast channels using H264 streams, which were not working with V28!!! On my fir...

[Solved] questions about upgrading v28 on UBUNTU 16.04LTS to v29 on UBUNTU 18.04LTS

I have some questions about migrating my MythTV system to new hardware and software. I currently have one master MythTV v28 backend with MySQL running on my storage server, with hostname NAS, under UBUNTU 16.04LTS. I have the MythTV v28 frontend running on another UBUNTU 16.04LTS PC, with hostname H...

Re: Looking for recomendation

I love SiliconDust HomeRun tuners. I tried several different cheap USB attached tuners that were for ATSC/OTA with a powered outside antenna, but I was never happy with them. I eventually got a HomeRun (i forget the model number) with dual tuners. It was much more reliable. I now use the SD HomerRun...

Re: Closed Captions for ComCast H264 channels?

Thank you for explaining the FFMpeg situation. I think that I will go ahead and update to Ubuntu MythTV 29 under 18.04LTS to get this closed captions problem fixed, but I'll maybe wait a month or so to allow time for any major problems to be discovered by others first. I've also been thinking about ...

Re: Is MythTV stable on Ubuntu?

Because I hated the Ubuntu Unity interface, I've been using MythTV on front and backend systems running Ubuntu MATE 16.04LTS, which I like a great deal. The MATE version of Ubuntu has enough GUI to be easy to use, without getting in the way or wasting resources. I've never had a database problem wit...

Closed Captions for ComCast H264 channels?

Could someone running Myth29 and using ComCast tell me if the captions work for H264 encoded channels, like CNN, AMC, and SyFy? I am using MythTV 28 with Ubuntu 16.04LTS on both my frontend HTPC and my separate backend media/storage server. I am using a SD HomeRun Prime with ComCast cable TV service...
