Re: MythTV and Mythbuntu Wiki Pages

Thanks heyted for the explanation of what Mythbuntu Control Panel does. I did not realize that it would actually install MythTV on *buntu and hence minimize the need for a Mythbuntu distro. Your efforts will help to make this key information more prominent. The next time I set up an x86-64 computer ...

Re: The future of MythTV

I use MythTV for recording 1080i/720p OTA. I'm a big fan of Mythfrontend on x86-64 hardware as I can run the whole stack using Free Software (*buntu) with correspondingly less privacy issues. The big wins for me of Mythfrontend versus Kodi with the MythTV.PVR add-on are: Commercial skip with full ma...

Re: Nvidia Shield v Firestick 4K for full frontend

> if you plug an external USB DVD drive into the Shield's USB port, does it become available within Myth frontend to play DVDs? IMHO there would be a very low likelihood of anyone using a Shield to watch DVDs via an attached USB DVD drive. Hence I would not expect there to be anyone that can answer ...

Re: Replacement MCE Remote

I'm not sure what you mean by "multi-function" remote.

The remote I listed above is an MCE RC6 Infra-Red remote. I use it exclusively with MythTV and Kodi. I have used both lirc and ir-keytable to map the buttons to key presses.

Re: Replacement MCE Remote

A search for "mce remote control" on aliexpress.com yields a number of remote controls that have the colored buttons.

I bought and use this MCE Remote, and just used the IR receiver from my old Mediagate MCE remote control. Note that delivery can take a month or two.

Re: Nvidia Shield v Firestick 4K for full frontend

I too found video playback (on 1080i) not quite perfect when using MythFrontend on the RPi4. From my perspective the best combined MythFrontend/MythBackend solution is still an Intel x86_64 computer, though not too new as mentioned by @jfabernathy because the graphic drivers might not yet be fully d...

Re: Frontend on a Pi4: 0.30 v 0.31

I briefly tested MythTV v30 on RPi4 and the resulting video display with mythfrontend was not perfect either (similar to v31). Because MythTV v30 still supported OpenMAX I suspect that it would display better on an RPi2/3 which have the Broadcom Videocore IV GPU and also support a purchased MPEG2 li...

Re: mythwelcome - does not shut down

One thing to check is that the nvram-wakeup Restart command is blank / empty. I ran into problems with autostart/shutdown when an space character somehow appeared in that field. With the space character being invisible it was very difficult to track down. EDIT : Note that years ago I wrote some docu...

Re: pi-utils/pi-setup_mythtv_31.sh

With the notification of the Bintray site being decommissioned [1], are there plans to update the pi-utils scripts to use the new https://dl.orangedox.com/pCBmBm download location?

Re: Raspberry PI version of Mythtv v31 still at v31.0-59?

Awesome! I have installed this updated mythfrontend on Raspberry Pi 4 4GB and 2017 NVidia Shield and my first impressions are it works well. Thank you very much Peter. :-)

Re: Raspberry PI version of Mythtv v31 still at v31.0-59?

Thank you Peter for your work on MythTV and maintaining build packages for Raspberry Pi and Android. I am aware of the Bintray discontinuation notice. My question with the MythTV 31 packages for Raspberry Pi and Android is whether these include the Closed Caption fixes mentioned as backported to v31...

Re: Raspberry PI version of Mythtv v31 still at v31.0-59?

In March there were some improvements to Closed Captions for MythTV that were backported to v31. See Closed Captions/Subtitling issues #326 Based on the naming of the current packages, such as mythfrontend-20210221-arm64-v31.0-138-g525e3b0bb4.apk, I assume that these were built prior to the above me...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

(though my current setup is still on v0.27). My main PVR is also running MythTV v0.27 under Mythbuntu 14.04. That combination has been super reliable and robust for me and other family members with similar PVRs. I note however that quad tuner has the same 100Mbit/s network interface. UK DVB-T2 muxe...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Is the HDHomeRun worth the extra money and are there any downsides to using a network tuner? One big plus to the HDHomeRun is that it has it's own power supply so it does not place any additional power demands on the host computer. In my case that meant I could add a USB3 2TB portable hard drive di...

Re: time for a new backend / daily driver

From my experience I've had no trouble recording 4 MPEG2 1080i/720p ATSC TV shows concurrently while simultaneously watching another recording using a single SATA II 3.5" 1 TB 7200 RPM Hard Disk Drive. To me this means that the additional speed provided by a SSD is not a requirement. I do take advan...
