Re: mythwelcome - does not shut down

You could check the systemd logs to see if mythshutdown is being run.
journalctl -xe

or run the backend from terminal & watch the stdout..

Re: Shingle disks?

I should clarify that recordings stay on the 2T HDD disk for 6 months before being moved. So each month, a month's recordings from 6 months ago are moved. One of the users (Stephen W) on the mailing list has scripts that could automate this. Both the archive (shingled) disk & 2T HDD are in storage g...

Re: Shingle disks?

I've been using 8TB shingled archive HDD for couple years and I've read of others using them.. But I record directly to normal rotating rust 2TB HDD, with system & DB on SSD, & then bulk move recordings to shingled drive each month. That way the high churn daily repeats/deletes don't make their way ...

Re: XMLTV Setup Messed Up

In your last log dump you are still trying to write to another user's home folder. Don't do this. You could try symlinking .xmltv (& other files) files across the different users. I used to do this *buntu14-04 days but that refused to work-itself-out later.. Now I just copy the files. A simple way t...

Re: Mythtv V31 won't start

Symbol errors are usually lib version/build mismatches.

I would look (& delete) in:
/usr/local/bin/myth*
/usr/local/include/mythtv/
& most importantly..
/usr/local/lib/libmyth*

then run:
sudo ldconfig

Re: Mythfrontend crashes on startup after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

Like everything FOSS & on linux..
launch from terminal/command line & provide some logs.

Not sure what version of mythtv is in 20.04 but everything about painting/rendering/decoding has been changed.
All your previous video decode/playback setup requires reconfig..

Re: Mythtv - wrong screen

I would suspect some tricky desktop manager feature that makes both screens one desktop. xorg xinerama extension? When I last had 2 displays on mythv box (*buntu 14.04) was using nvidia & separate xscreens. So much has changed since then & some of it has made things worse. For e.g. It is very hard t...

Re: Strange audio problem when playing recorded show

Start the FE from terminal with -v playback Could be related to alsa buffers.. but why did it just start happening now? After discovering the actual audio device being used you could try: echo 192 | sudo tee /proc/asound/card0/pcm1p/sub0/prealloc Many years ago (pre systemd) this could be "fixed" ea...

Re: FrontEnd won’t connect on remote computer Myth 31 Ubuntu 20.04

The MBE has to use real IP addr if you want to use remote BE or FEs. This is what my setup has with IPs changed to your MBE: BackendServerAddr=192.168.0.102 BackendServerIP=192.168.0.102 MasterServerIP=192.168.0.102 MasterServerName=colossus Guess the obvious questions is:- how did you end up with d...

Re: FrontEnd won’t connect on remote computer Myth 31 Ubuntu 20.04

Hi bill6502, I changed bind-address to :: & can now use socket connection on local BE-FE. Seems snappier especially in News RSS feeds. With mysql 5.7: mysql -h | MBE config.xml bind-address localhost 127.0.0. | localhost 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.32 192.168.1.32 yes no | no no yes :: yes tbd | yes tbd yes...

Re: FrontEnd won’t connect on remote computer Myth 31 Ubuntu 20.04

Pinging another box only means the network is up & hostname (if used) is resolved. If you ping 'colossus', from remote FE, it probably fails as you do not have a name resolver service &/or no entry in /etc/hosts file Your mysql server is not listening on a external IP address. You can only connect t...

Re: FrontEnd won’t connect on remote computer Myth 31 Ubuntu 20.04

It is okay to have multiple BackendServerAddr & BackendServerIP as long as the hostnames are different. Mine has old remote BEs & FEs.. The Master (not sure for how long!) backend is set by MasterServerIP etc. MasterServerIP 192.168.1.32 NULL is fine. I recall this always being that way. AFAIU If yo...

Re: Myth 29 - channel scan finds no channels when previously worked.

briggella w_scan is deprecated. Even if you build it from source (which you must), I recall it does not work with T2 & later T2 tuners. It may not work with current kernel v4l2-dvb media drivers. Your new ganged array antenna is much better for dvb-t/t2 than directional hi-gain as dvb-t/t2 modulatio...

Over the years I've tried to collect every ticket or post's video sample to use for testing stuff. I was going to suggest the (in)famous 'CheeseSlices' for de-interlacing tests until came across this. https://www.isovideo.com/deinterlacing_quality_assessment.php They have a good explanation of the l...
