Re: MythTV 31 Frontend Crashes on Connection to Backend

Your crashing does appear like in X server or openGL video drivers, this X stuff is not very robust. You might be able to configure opengl out but I think it is fundamental to any practical usage. You can pass cmd line options to mythfrontend when launching with gdb; I would try pass it:- $ gdb --ar...

Re: MythTV 31 Frontend Crashes on Connection to Backend

Large parts of the world have always used XMLTV with MythTV using web sourced listings or extracted from OTA MHEG with RedButton etc. At least 12yrs here.. What's new for SD is using XMLTV. Markvannoy Your problems could very well be old libraries/binaries. You should have a manual clean out of the ...

Re: V32 Mytharchive installed but no entry in menus

AIUI & as it works here:

The "file" output path is set per archive run/job.
It is set by user on the first screen/page of mytharchive when you run the extension.

If you create an ISO (not a "file output") etc then it uses the setup defined "temp" folder.

Re: MythTV freezes with finnish YLE programs

IMO that ppa is following master too closely & with no regard to whether the build is working, only considering build success. But I tested your video files in latest master from yesterday & they decoded & seemed to play okay (PQ etc another matter). There has been a massive re-factoring in playback...

Re: MythTV freezes with finnish YLE programs

Timo, Are you building from source ? If you are you need to be very careful to clean, distclean regularly & also build mythplugins after building installing main mythtv libraries. I've noticed that (only recently?) mythtv is linking in old /usr/local/lib libraries. That leads to seg fault crashes & ...

Re: Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD Quad Recording

Looking at some recent changelogs for Brad Love's Hauppauge PPA there is mention of DKMS.
That suggests it could be compatible with Nvidia drivers.

But you are getting (potentially) a complete kernel from an untrusted third party source.

Re: Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD Quad Recording

PPA: I don't think you need the Hauppauge PPA since before 18.04 except as a source of potentially later firmware. Their media tree builds were incompatible with Nvidia graphic drivers (or any other kernel module). Way back you needed to get the latest dvb5-tools to be able to scan & zap this tuner ...

Re: MythTV freezes with finnish YLE programs

Both play perfectly in mpv (no surprise). Both recordings have subtitles & teletext but are otherwise really basic.. Ffplay makes a bit of a circus show trying to play them. Plays the TT & video all mixed together. MythTV master configure seems to have removed/hidden --enable-sdl option.. My MythTV ...

No problem.. path of least resistance.

We'll all have to figure out mariadb before long.

Re: ubuntu 18 - 20 upgrade completly broke my mythtv

It's not just the port but whether mariadb is listening on localhost or any IP etc. You need to be able to login as the MBE user & password on the local machine. There's no point attempting to run MBE/BE until this is satisfied. The "user" customisable mysql *.cnf files could be stored in subfolders...

Re: ubuntu 18 - 20 upgrade completly broke my mythtv

James There's no guarantee the Ubuntu upgrade works, so I would assume it does not. As always with FOSS, the devil is in the detail.. The 18.04 to 20.04 most likely made the replacement of mysql with mariadb. That would have probably trashed the specific settings for db connection & the user grants/...

Re: Need strategy for FC30 - FC33 upgrade to avoid python-lxml issue

I've never used Fedora but if it is anything like the *buntus.... you should refresh upgrade to latest in same point release before hitting the system upgrade red button. Ubuntu has packages: python-lxml (python2) python3-lxml I could imagine you have to uninstall mythtv before you can proceed. You ...

Re: The video has become choppy (again)

Hi Goeran Until I bought a 4K monitor was using a Philips CRT 32W with VGA. It would accept 576p50, 720p60 & 1152i50 but it looked best at 1080i60 with service menu adjustments to overscan & geometry. It was so well made (Belgium) it just wouldn't fail. Does the TV have VGA input? The VGA input on t...

Re: The video has become choppy (again)

Goeran As I understand it.. AVSync2 is now the default & only option. I don't think it works as well as previous with video - display mode mismatches but modern TVs seem to plaster over all manner of ugliness except the content.. I would check confirm the display videomodes (refresh rate) matches th...

Re: Need suggestions for a sound card with toslink output for audio passthrough

I fairly (very) sure MythTV can be setup to output discrete multi-channel PCM or bitstream encoded (AC3/DTS) over HDMI. I believe most mobos can be setup to output HDA over some of the analog headers. MythTV by default uses the highest quality audio format over a connection/codec. That information f...
