Mythtv front end hardware?

I am upgrading my hardware and planning to separate the FE and BE. Currently have FE and BE on Athlon II X2 255. I do OTA and a bit of on line movies on this machine. It works ok but starting things could be faster. Some of that is likely due to disk speed - it's a traditional HDD. For the new backe...

Doh! iconnor is a zoneminder ppa. Doing both installs and mixed things up. Installing mythtv with MCP.

Re: Determine loading on system for additional programs?

Appreciate the feedback but am still looking for an answer to my original question of determining load on my PC. One way is to use top and if the load average is more than the number of cores it's overloaded. I suppose I should try that while recording with all my tuners and playing back too. If I h...

Determine loading on system for additional programs?

Wondering how best to check loading of systems to combine MythTV with Zoneminder on the same PC. Some background... Have a BE/FE Xubuntu Myth system that I am wanting to upgrade - its running on ubuntu 14.04. It works ok but could be a bit more responsive and want the newer features/improvements. I ...

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

For anyone else finding this thread I stumbled across another thread on the resurrection of Mythbuntu Control Center/Panel. Looks like it came to be fairly recently.

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

Steve, Thanks. Yes, I did find that. Maybe I didn't state it very clearly but that was the reason for my question about if that is the preferred way to set up a new system.

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

BTW, my system is an Athlon II X2 255 with 4G of ram. I have upgraded the tuner and hard drive but have been thinking I should do a more major upgrade of the main board and CPU. Running a newer OS is likely to negatively impact performance so will likely put off the OS upgrade until I get a new PC.

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

I checked and have Mythbuntu Control Center on my system currently in use. I didn't find any options related to the tuners. I installed the tuner manually and think I did a lot of the initial install manually as well - that was a long time ago. I didn't know that the control center/panel was still v...

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

Found the file at /etc/init/mythtv-backend.conf
I will try adding a sleep statement before it loads the backend.

Thanks!

Re: Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

What is the work around? I suppose I could delay the server starting the backend somehow but would have to figure out how to do that. I'm still on Ubuntu 14.04 and some information I found using systemd apparently is for later distributions. Perhaps I should make another attempt to set up a newer sy...

Myth doesn't connect to Silicon Dust tuner properly after power outage

Had a utility outage of about 2 hours and when the power came back on the mythtv box is set to automatically start. It did and myth started. I looked at the status in mythweb on another PC and backend status showed the tuners not in use since it wasn't trying to record. Later in the day I noticed se...

Re: Recordings from HD Home run fail until power cycle

I found some other places on line that mention crashes but they are fairly old. One mentioned putting in a switch to automatically power cycle the tuner. https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62840 I also found that my tuner firmware was one update behind so loaded the latest (20200907)....

Re: Recordings from HD Home run fail until power cycle

Yes, I could put something like that together pretty easily. Thought of that. But wondering why MythTV doesn't generate an error. Maybe the logs have errors and it just doesn't show up in mythweb. My myth box power supply won't properly restart automatically for short power interruptions. I am guess...

Recordings from HD Home run fail until power cycle

Just noticed that several days of recordings failed - they all show as 1 minute each. I tried to access the tuner directly at it's IP address with a browser and that failed. I cycled power to the tuner and then I could access it. But live TV in myth still failed. I restarted the PC runing myth and e...
