Re: HDPVR color is off

Before you do any more tinkering with the settings, if you have another cable, try swapping it out. It could just be that your current one isn't making good contact or is frayed. Or even just try swapping the three parts of the cable you have now, the same at both ends. (So, for instance, connect re...

Re: HDPVR color is off

I recently upgraded the firmware on both of my units, and I found that the default values work just fine, where I had previously been using a hack to change them to suit the old firmware. "0x80" is hexadecimal for 128 decimal. I think v4l2-ctl will understand either format. So here are the defaults,...

Re: basic question - Hauppauge HD-PVR

If you are using the component or composite output from a cable box, there is no way that copy protection/encryption will be an issue. It's only a possible problem if you are using HDMI to connect the cable box to the HD-PVR.

Re: Understanding Commercial Detection

The wiki also makes it sound like a frontend option rather than a backend one. Is this truly the case? There are three parts to commercial flagging. One is the general commflagging job, which is what you found in the backend setup. Next, there is the commflagging option that has to be set for the r...

Re: basic question - Hauppauge HD-PVR

1. Yes, the 1212 is commonly used by MythTV users. I have two of them.
2. It uses a USB 2 port to connect to the PC. You'll also need to get audio from the cable box to the HD-PVR; if possible, use TOSLINK (S/PDIF) for best quality.

Re: Ok to post information about a product made for MythTV?

Thanks for the speedy reply. Here are a few replies to your reply: 1. Yes, to power off (sleep, actually) the frontend. Many TVs will simply rely on the presence or lack thereof of a video signal and automatically go into sleep mode, so perhaps it's not always necessary to control the TV as well, th...

Re: Ok to post information about a product made for MythTV?

Hi @brichards42, Please don't take these as a strong criticism. I'm happy to see a maker trying to come up with a product for all us Mythizens, and I hope you have luck selling your remotes. But there are several reasons I wouldn't consider it: 1. Unless I missed it, there's no Power button. 2.The b...

Re: Recordings from HD Home run fail until power cycle

You might try running something to "ping" the HDHR in a cron job, and see if that fails. Possibly even something as simple as this would suffice: hdhomerun_config discover > /dev/null || mailx -s "HDHR Failed" your_email@whatever.com This assumes that hdhomerun_config returns a zero status code if n...

Re: USB hard Drive spinnign down and causing deadlock

I have never run into a case where the enclosure caused a drive to spin-down due to inactivity. Usually this is due to a setting in the drive, itself. You can check if that's the case here with: hdparm -C /dev/sdX (where X is the appropriate drive letter.) If it is in standby mode, you should be abl...

Re: HDPVR Component Input Looks Terrible

Two possibilities:

1. This could be caused by your bit rate settings, in Recording Profiles.
2. Or, less likely, it might be due to the bug described under the heading Over-saturation and Color Solution, here: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR .

Re: Any recommended antennas?

While it is possible to combine the signals from multiple antennas, it's not always optimal to do so. You might consider using a box like the HDHomeRun, which has multiple over-the-air tuners. That way you can have one tuner for each antenna. Of course, this does mean running two cables down from th...

Re: CENTOS 8

I have been using it on CentOS for several years, but have not yet upgraded to 8 (I'm still using 7). They have been doing a pretty good job of keeping backward-compatibility lately, so it might be as easy as just upgrading. If you run into problems, post here and I'll try to help.

Re: Mythtranscode error

Last I checked, mythtranscode is pretty much unsupported for actual transcoding. IIRC, it only supports MPEG2, and nothing newer.

I believe some folks do still use it to pipe the data, with commercial cutlists, to other programs to do the actual transcoding.
