Re: Recordings sporadically fail

I seem to have posted many problems over the years so I have the replies to rely on. How is your backend server driven? Is it wired or wireless? Have you had any power cuts locally. My area recently suffered several tiny cuts. Sometimes enough to kill the oven clocks, sometimes just the computer. So...

Mythtv - wrong screen

I am running mythtv-frontend 31 on Mint 20. My desktop system has two screens. I only watch TV or recordings on the left-hand screen. Mint uses xfdrake to generate xorg.conf. It looks fine, The screens are driven by separate video cards. I can drag everything (in a widow) from screen to screen if ch...

Re: Reboot required periodically

Unfortunately this appears not to be a single fault: 1) When the system boots up, a crash report is generated. I have asked the Linux Mint forum to interpret the report for me. 2) The machine's wi-fi stops working intermittently. It maybe that it there is no mythtv issue at all. I wiil report back w...

Re: Reboot required periodically

Amazing. The hosts file on the remote had incorrect (old) entries for the hosts, somehow missed. My SQL skills are legendary (non-existent) so I chose to create files using touch and see if they clear eventually. Well the backend did restart. I used it all yesterday. I just started the remote fronte...

[SOLVED] Reboot required periodically

Sometimes when starting up will report that it is timing out from live TV. It always requires a reboot of the back-end server to remedy this. Both machines are running Mint 20. When I inspected the backend log I found some odd items like references to expired recordings that were never knowingly rec...

Could not change channels

This morning I could not change channels (Live TV) on both remote and server/frontend.
I rebooted the server and it was fine.

It has happened before. I am curious as to what might cause this.

[SOLVED] Instability - Mythtv 31 - Mint 20

The day after I posted this, I booted my work machine and later, the backend server, the system that I am writing about. I executed the remote's front end first and tested it. It was rock solid. i did the same on the backend server and was surprised that the instability had gone. No. I cannot unders...

Re: Frontend Fails to connect to database

Well spotted. The Master Backend Name had become unset. I can now get unto the frontend setup! I cannot get live TV 'tuners are all busy'. The driver is loaded: root@origen:~# dmesg | grep dvb [ 8.936782] dvbdev: DVB: registering new adapter (SAA716x dvb adapter) [ 9.957252] dvbdev: DVB: registering...

Re: Frontend Fails to connect to database

Since my In the meantime, I located the missing libcec.so.4 but clearly that was not the answer. I had already read the wiki. Thank you. I renamed /home/alan.mythtv to /home/alan/.mythtv-old and created a new .mythtv then ln -s /etc/mythtv/config.xml /home/alan/.mythtv/config.xml the /usr/bin/mythfr...

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot modify the database

I documented every move I made after the reinstall and now, it seems there is a missing library file (libcec.so.4) between me and getting the frontend to behave. It is reported on a new Topic. Your insights have all been recorded in my documentation. Thank you again for your advice. I do learn from ...

Frontend Fails to connect to database

This is MythTV 31 on Mint 20. The mythtv-setup and mythtv backend configurations seem to be fine. However I cannot get the local frontend to connect with the database. The frontend reports that it cannot find libcec.so.4 Could this be the sticking point? The following was entered before the two line...

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot modify the database

In desperation I remove MySQL and MythTV and reinstalled. # apt purge mysql-server mysql-common mysql-client-8.0 # rm -rf /var/lib/mysql # rm -rf /etc/mysql # apt install mythtv That cleared the problem. the mythttv-setup and mythbackend configuration went well. I am left with a frontend problem tha...

Re: Cannot modify the database

"In my 2nd response, I asked for: SELECT User,Host,plugin,authentication_string FROM user WHERE User= 'mythtv'; but never saw the output" My apologies Bill. Because of the underlying corruption and a need to undertake a complete reinstall I assumed that was in relation to a horse that had already bo...

Re: Cannot modify the database

I had to reinstall Mint 20 to remove ther persistent MySQL error. The reinsall of MythTV has been trouble free, except that Setup cannot find the database. The first step would be to change the password in the second line in the mysql table below. I have tried: update mysql.user set authentication_s...
