Re: New ATSC tuners

Will it, or won't it? https://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/hdhomerun_development.pdf Program/PID filtering: The HDHomeRun supports hardware PID filtering. When used this reduces the network bandwidth to that of the sub-channel being watched/recorded. This is useful for US-QAM as the HDHomeRun will...

Re: New ATSC tuners

Is recording multiple virtual channels from one channel at the same time actually useful? (As opposed to theoretically so.) I do not recall having every programmed a pair of shows like that, and it has been more than a decade of use.

Re: New ATSC tuners

I'd still go with a HDHomerun. I've been running one for years and it's been solid. The only problem we ever had with ours was when the power wart died after many, many years. Bought a generic one of ebay with the same specs and no problems since. (Hardly a criticism specific to the HDHomerun - eve...

Diagnostic videos?

Is there somewhere a collection of videos, stored the way MythTV currently stores recordings, which could be used to diagnose video output problems? I'm thinking particularly of a few use cases, for 720p 1080i 4K (?) and any other format in common broadcast usage. They need not be very long, maybe 5...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no HDMI sound

I think it is solved, based on information starting from here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/71863/how-to-change-pulseaudio-sink-with-pacmd-set-default-sink-during-playback Let's say that the UID of the process running Mythtv is 1000. Boot the DVR with the monitor off and ssh into that account. ex...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

On V30 and 18.04 my playback setting was just "Normal" Yes, that seems to be the ticket. This is the current configuration: 1. HDMI cable from HDMI motherboard output into TV "DVI" port. 2. Analog "Y" audio cable from green motherboard output jack to "DVI audio in" L + R jacks. 3. Video playback se...

On V30 and 18.04 my playback setting was just "Normal" iirc, but I was also using the AMD drivers mentioned here.

On 20.04 I'm just using the kernel drivers.
That link does not work.

Re: deinterlace issue vdpau

I am seeing the same thing with a Ryzen 3 3200G set to playback "VDPAU (High Quality)". Ubuntu 18.0.4.4, 5.3.0-59-generic Setting playback to :"VAAPI" does not do this (the half screen business). Unfortunately, instead it chops off lines from the bottom (and likely right side) of the screen instead....

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

Aargh! Video playback set to "VAAPI" is cutting off around 30 lines on the bottom of the screen, perhaps some on the right too. It isn't overscan per se, because the TV is set to "fit screen", and with VDPAU at least that does indeed give the entire screen. This was evident in, for instance, the Tod...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

Your description sounds like the pause frame is showing a single field for interlaced material. I'm assuming you are using VDPAU deinterlacing - in which case it sounds like a driver bug? Have you tried using VAAPI for decoding? Yes, it was vdpau deinterlacing. Perhaps the modes which were selected...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

Looking in the displays.xml file for the account which runs the X11 server one finds: <channel name="displays" version="1.0"> <property name="Default" type="empty"> <property name="default" type="string" value="default"> <property name="Active" type="bool" value="true"/> <property name="Resolution" ...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

Have not tried VAAPI yet. Interestingly this half field business varies from show to show on the same channel. Some are full screen on fast forward or pause, others are half field. Do channels broadcast a mix of 1080p and 1080i? We also now observe that the menu overlay (like for "PAUSE" when the sc...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no HDMI sound

Un-closing this out. If the DVR is started before the TV amdgpu loads but it has no HDMI sound device. Easy enough to fix by restarting lightdm after the TV is on but it would be nice if it did not do that. Probably I need to force X11 to use the TV's EDID. No problem downloading that, but how to ge...

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no HDMI sound

Just to close this out, once the newer kernel (5.3.0-59) was installed on 18.04.4 and rebooted X11 correctly loaded amdgpu and sound out through HDMI started working.

Re: Ryzen 3 3200g, Ubuntu 18.04.4, no hardware acceleration

The mythfrontend.log is full of pulse audio error messages. After trying all sorts of Audio settings in "Setup" it finally dawned on me that the DVI port might not support audio even though it was through an HDMI cable. Moved that to a DVI port and sound worked (at that point it was on "alsa:default...
