Keeping up with satellite retunes

For the Astra satellites, it seems (from KingOfSat) that every few days some FTA channel is added, removed, or moves frequency. Mostly I don't notice until it affects a channel I use and I get failed recordings, and then I re-run mythtv-setup and rescan, then run SQL to set "useonairguide=0" (since ...

Re: SchedulesDirect recorded originalairdate for movies is 0

Thanks, I've raised [https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13213].

You're right, it does populate airdate in mythfilldatabase, but I think OTA also populated originalairdate with the same information and that originalairdate is the only one persisted in to the recorded table.

Re: Notes on getting astrometa dvb-t2 to work

@kesjs For you, I think the correct syntax for the dvbv5-scan is: dvbv5-scan -f 1 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-legacy/dvb-t/uk-Durris (Since your package manage seems to put the scan files there). So reboot to start from clean and try that. The "-f 1" means "use /dev/adapter0/frontend1". If you leave it off t...

IPTV mpts scan is storing same url for all channels

Using: 29.0+fixes.20170827.48a2cfa-0ubuntu0mythbuntu2 Since my slave machine next to my satellite cables is starting to fail, I thought I would try setting up IPTV from my master to a tvheadend talking to my satellite. This would allow me to replace the failing machine with a small box (such as Pi)....

SchedulesDirect recorded originalairdate for movies is 0 (Implemented)

Proposal: Populate originalairdate for recorded movies from airdate or tmdb lookup. I recently switched from OTA listings to SchedulesDirect. Previously the mythtv recorded table contained an originalairdate for movies such as '2015-01-01' (always 1st Jan). Now I only have 0000-00-00 for all newly r...

Re: Is this laptop too old for DVR of OTA TV?

My guess would be that the laptop is more than powerful enough. I have read a few reports that Ironlake has general problems on linux playing full HD for some people, but works fine for others, with some people suggesting the BIOS video settings are often too low. I don't have that laptop so can't a...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Install

If you're feeling adventurous, you could always keep your 11.10 that talks to the network OK and then install the latest ubuntu and mythtv inside a Virtualbox virtual machine. That way the mythtv sees a virtual emulated network card and lets 11.10 talk to your real network. So, the latest ubuntu is ...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Install

Yes it's very frustrating when you have a problem that is hard to diagnose. But it does sound like that internal NIC (along with the OS) must get confused at some point and flood your network with broadcast packets since otherwise your router should filter out the traffic from your other machines an...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Install

I saw your other post about network lockup and that you were running 0.27. So I guess you downgraded the OS after those problems? The Lenovo forum suggested disabling the internal network card in the BIOS and installing a "Marvell Yukon 88E8070 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller" solved the problem f...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Install

I think the problem you have is that you are trying to add the latest version of mythtv, but that doesn't support your v11.10 since ubuntu support for that version was discontinued a few years ago. Going through the other ppa archives, it appears mythtv 0.25 from 2012 supports natty. https://launchp...

Re: Hardware for Remote use

You're welcome. I understand your drive swapping. So your database and media are currently all on your 1TB drive. You'll purchase a new drive and then every few months power off the machine, swap the drive, and take the old drive to Weekend and leave it there. Then after a few months swap back. That...

Re: Hardware for Remote use

When I mentioned wireless remote I meant that it uses its own radio (a bit like bluetooth but not compatible with bluetooth) and so it doesn't need wi-fi either. If you're looking for IR then I used to use the Ortek remote which is around $14. It lasted a couple of years before some keys failed. The...

Re: Hardware for Remote use

Unless you are time-rich, I'd avoid the Pi and all the disk swapping, syncing, etc. If your main concern is using the keyboard on your laptop then you can just buy a usb remote control for it. This is the cheapest option. Search "2.4G remote" or "air mouse" on a popular shopping site. For around $13...

Re: Killing mythtv backend does not actually kill it

Many daemons auto-restart if they exit or if you kill them. This is to handle cases where a program crashes and should automatically restart. There's normally config to stop processes restarting too many times and too frequently. One way to stop it (until reboot) is: systemctl stop mythtv-backend To...

Re: Beginner Tuner Question

Since you mentioned you have a laptop, maybe that still has Windows installed? In which case, I believe the free Windows MediaPortal program supports HDHomeRun fairly easily and SchedulesDirect for the tv guide/EPG. It might be worth a try. I don't use it so can not say if it definitely supports all...
