Re: MythTV Live TV not working on HDHomeRun

I think you can ignore the recording type option. Check the storage group configuration. It could be that there are different locations configured for recording and for live TV and that it is not possible to write to the location for live TV. Apologies. The back end error was a red herring. Same er...

MythTV Live TV not working on HDHomeRun

Hi All, I'm a long time user of MythTV (about 15 years) and am in the process of replacing my 10 year old setup with a Raspberry Pi 4 running MythTV Lite (v31) on a combined front end / back end and a new HDHomeRun Connect tuner box HDHR5-2DT . Everything is working well, except Live TV which refuse...

Re: RPi 4 MythTV-light 31 issues

I'm not entirely sure that behaviour is consistent though. On one occasion since I change it, it went back to crashing on startup but a reboot fixed it. As I suspected it isn't consistent. The right answer is to modify run_mythfrontend.sh to use /dev/dri/by-path/platform-gpu-card which links to whi...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

I'm struggling to work out how to force the front end to display in a particular mode, specifically 1920x1080@50Hz. I think I finally understand why making changes in /boot/config.txt is having no affect. I'm not using a desktop (just mythtv lite on Raspbian lite) - do I need to edit xorg.conf or s...

Re: RPi 4 MythTV-light 31 issues

Ok, I've made some progress, thanks to a QT developer's post to some forum somewhere... I changed the run_mythfrontend.sh script. I changed the end section to look like this: export QT_QPA_EGLFS_ALWAYS_SET_MODE="1" #for QT debug add to command line QT_QPA_EGLFS_DEBUG=1 QT_LOGGING_RULES=qt.qpa.*=tru...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Had an initial play with it yesterday. Don't have storage or tuner as yet - just the Pi, so installed the OS and MythTV Lite v31 on an SD card and ran the Pi-Utils script to get a fully functioning combined BE/FE. I then imported my existing database, upgraded the schema with mythv-setup and mounted...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

I know that ATSC MB/s has reduced in the USA as a result of the FCC repack of channels. I use to see the higher quality programs consume 6GB per hour. Now that is more like 4GB per hour. Some of that bandwidth is going to more sub channels in the mux, How's that encoded? DVB-T2 here is rarely more ...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

One big plus to the HDHomeRun is that it has it's own power supply so it does not place any additional power demands on the host computer. In my case that meant I could add a USB3 2TB portable hard drive directly to my Raspberry Pi and still have sufficient power for everything to run smoothly. I w...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Now that the RPi 4 boots from USB SATA SSD I would not use a microSD card for anything but picking my teeth, IMHO. Your database is the last thing you want on the microSD as you write a lot to the database and random writes are the worse on microSDs. I have not run a RPI 4 base backend in about 6 m...

Re: Backend on Pi 4

Hi All, I'm looking to replace my nearly ten year old nVidia ion based MythTV combined BE/FE and after some research (and reading this thread!) decided to trial using a Pi 4 as a replacement. To start off with I plan on installing Raspberry Pi OS and MythTV Lite on a microSD card, importing my datab...
