Re: Apple TV

Many thanks for pointing me to that. Great minds think alike :-)

Now I know about that, I'll have to get an TV.4 now and try it out.

Apple TV

Here's a radical thought. What about MythTV frontend as an app on the latest Apple TV? Since I want to be sharing iTunes simultaneously to MythTV, I need TVs alongside my MythTV frontends in any case and neither are large so not a huge problem. But how much more elegant would be just the single box...

Thanks for that. I suspected this was the case.

Re: MythMusic

Another question has occurred to me. How do music videos fit into the MythTV universe? iTunes actually stores them alongside the Music, so an album folder would contain the MP3s (or whatever format) and also any music videos specified as being a part of that album. IMO, this is not ideal, but it's n...

Re: MythMusic

Ooh, now that would be rather ideal. First of all, when might that make it into the mainstream and also, will MythMusic be able to access this media in the same way that the rest of the frontend accesses videos etc?

Re: MythMusic

I have all the music on a Mac Server (for iTunes and TVs etc) and will store all videos (i.e. recordings and all other forms) on the MythTV backend server. They then cross mount, so each has access to the other's media and My Mac mounts both media types from both servers. So the media only exists o...

Re: NFS sharing video Storage Group

Yes it works, but I was unable to have one client ro and one rw when on the same line. The manual pages are quite clear, the settings for an individual client (on the same line) should override any general ones, but this is not what I'm seeing. I have no idea why this is. A bug perhaps? Or is the ma...

Re: MythMusic

That's good info thanks. My music will remain on the Mac Server and shared to my Mac and also at the moment to the MythTV backend (just set that up). But going by what you say, looks like it would make more sense to mount the music directly on the frontends and not on the backend at all. This is the...

Re: MythMusic

Yes I know and it's all free, so I can't complain and I'm really extremely grateful for all the effort that goes into these things. But it can get very frustrating sometimes when it seems impossible to find out the smallest, most basic details. Once I am more conversant with it all, I will do my bes...

Re: MythMusic

Indeed and that's the main culprit as it simply doesn't answer my questions. That entire page contains NO reference to either frontend or backend. Ultimately it's good to know what codecs it can support etc, but first, I'd really like to know where it needs to be installed and an overview of how it ...

MythMusic

First of all, I'd like to apologise for posting this. I did try searching the forum for existing threads that might help, but as per usual I was simply informed the word MythMusic was too common for the search engine to even bother looking. This is a particularly irritating piece of nonsense that ke...

Re: Backend suggestions

Thanks, I will do that. One of the plus points about MythTV was it being based on an SQL database.

Currently working through how I want to set up the Storage Groups. I think I've got it now and about to set up the NFS exports to share what I want with iTunes.

I love it when a plan comes together. :)

Re: Backend suggestions

I thank you for that assistance, most helpful. It must be 10 years since I was last playing around with linux. To be honest Mac OS X offered the best of both worlds so I've just been dealing with that since. But, MythTV promises everything I've been wanting in a home media system. Apple have never q...

NFS sharing video Storage Group

More of an NFS problem than MythTV specifically, but I'm trying to share the videos Storage Group and it's not doing what it is supposed to do. I've set up the following line in /etc/exports:- /somepath/videos -insecure,all_squash,anonuid=115,anongid=124,no_subtree_check Mac1(rw) Mac2(ro) The uid an...

Re: MythBuntu Disk Utility

I found gparted and that seems ideal. It's just surprising that this sort of thing is not included as it seems everyone trying to set up MythTV would need it.

I've got it sorted now though, thanks.
