Re: MythTV 31 - High CPU usage during playback

So I managed to work through the Big Sur qt and audio issues for v31 and will be uploading the files shortly. My CPU usage for this build is ~35% for OpenGL ~15% for VideoToolBox WARNING - I had to graft the master-prev32 audio updates onto v31 to get it working so there may be some unintended bugs....

Re: MythTV 31 - High CPU usage during playback

I just posted some new Catalina builds for v31 and v32. These use Xcode 12.2. Testing on my on my Big Sur system (11.0.1), I am only using ~20% of a cpu during playback. I'm optimistic that they'll fix your playback issues since they use the latest SDK. For settings, I am using the "Open GL High Qua...

Re: MythTV 31 - High CPU usage during playback

Thanks this helps me try to troubleshoot. i haven't tested much since upgrading my main system to Big Sur (upgraded yesterday). In Big Sur Apple upgraded Xcode to 12.2 which is causing a lot of chaos since it's modified a lot of things to be compatible with the new Apple Silicon. I'll post when I ge...

Re: MythTV 31 - High CPU usage during playback

I think what you discovered is probably the best fix for the time being. Mark had to put in quite a few changes to get video playback in non-low resolution mode working. What version of macOS are you running? What version of the MythFrontend did you grab? I ask because if you're running Catalina - m...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

Long story short - I am currently only planning to keep building with High Sierra, Catalina, and eventually Big Sur. I may even deprecate either the Catalina or HS build in the future as I migrate my systems to Big Sur. Although I may decide to spin up another VM... In regards to your question, I su...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

That's a good thought. My backend is running MySQL where as the mythtfrontend is using mariadb (mostly due to mariadb being the most up to date in macports when I started earlier in the year). Unfortunately - I can't get the error to repeat. In the future when I make new builds I'll certainly run wi...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

So I just experienced the same database is behind error messages on the latest builds (currently uploading to sourceforge). I'm not sure what is causing it, but quitting the application then re-opening it resolved the issue for me. I'll update the sourceforge wiki to include this as a known error.

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

Did you try running "MythFrontend-31-intel-10.15.6-v31-ea0831c74a-with-plugins" more than once? I'm running that version on my computer (i.e. the one used to compile and post it to source forge) with no errors. I've noticed that occasional builds on macOS fail the first time you try to open the appl...

Re: Looking for OSX MythTV 31 frontend pre-built binary

That's quite strange. I am running a similar setup - mythtv backend on Ubuntu 20.04 running database schema 1361 (actually same version from the mythbuntu ppa). Are you using the Catalina build (10.15 in the dmg file name) or the High Sierra build (10.13 in the dmg file name? Have you tried moving o...

Re: [Solved] Mythfrontend playback on quarter screen

The high resolution screen issues are now resolved in v31 and master. New binaries will be uploaded to sourceforge https://sourceforge.net/projects/mythtvformacosx shortly.

A BIG BIG thank you to Mark K for getting this fixed.

Re: MythTV master (v32)

After doing as Stuart suggested (i.e. install a VM for a backend), it looks like Master (v32) is compiling and running correctly.

I'll post a copy of the .dmg up on the sourceforge site in a little while. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mythtvformacosx/

Re: MythTV master (v32)

Stuart thank you for the suggestion. I had considered the VM route, but was optimistic someone else in the community with a mac had already made the jump to master and would be willing to test. I suspect I'll probably do as you suggest in the near future. I am just trying to juggle time commitments ...

Re: [Solved] Mythfrontend playback on quarter screen

@mark_k - My sincerest apologies, I missed the OSD on video playback in my testing of your fix. Unfortunately, it's renderering oversized. Thankfully is more of an annoyance than a big issue.

I have created a new ticket in trac to get the bug fixed https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/13646

MythTV master (v32)

I managed to get MythTV master (v32) to successfully compile and open on my system. Would anyone be willing to test the application against a master (v32) backend? Unfortunately I am unable to test it myself as I only have the one v31 backend and its my production system (i.e. the family would kill ...

This issue is now resolved with the fix now in the v31 git repo.

A big thank you to Mark for fixing this!
