Thanks for the info. May be worth a try but I wouldn't guess I'm particularly old with hardware. Just for info, I'm using a Gigabyte AM3 board with an AMD FX 4100 processor. Just to report back... I did have to reboot once (I'm pretty sure not a mythtv problem but TBS card can get "stuck" and I don't know how to reset dvb without a reboot) over the past few days but I've had no resource issues since disabling upnp. I've had a problem for quite a while where mythbackend seemingly randomly starts to use more and more CPU - 100% +.
