Re: Frontend on a Pixelbook (Chromebook)

Turns out you can get sound by going into mythtv setup and choosing pulse instead of alsa in the audio setup menu!

Frontend on a Pixelbook (Chromebook)

I like chromebooks and find their features are made much more useful by running linux in a Crostini container. The default is a Debian container called "penguin." Recently I decided to see if I could run a MythTV frontend in such a container. According to: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Installing_Myth...

Re: Database access broken after Ubuntu upgrade

I don't know how you wound up with mariadb; my system, a 20.04 Ubuntu backend that is working well, is running mysql, maybe this is the source of your problem? Here are a few sample outputs for reference: ===== $ sudo systemctl status mysql ● mysql.service - MySQL Community Server Loaded: loaded (/l...

Re: (SOLVED)"NO DATA" on many channel listings in mythweb, but not frontend

I believe I have found the problem. It is disturbing that it involves such a tiny change, which leads to such profound effects. In my Antenna.xmltv file, the correct first line is: database=/home/mythtv/.xmltv/SchedulesDirect.DB but my misconfigured Antenna.xmltv had the user directory: database=/ho...

Re: "NO DATA" on many channel listings in mythweb, but not frontend

It seems that my system is simply mis-configured. But, I have been around and around and around in the MythTV guide "XMLTV": https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/XMLTV to no effect. It says: "I recommend that you ... make sure there are no recordings scheduled for the near future before starting." Indeed. Be...

(SOLVED)"NO DATA" on many channel listings in mythweb, but not frontend

mythweb is useful as a kind of swiss army knife tool to view status, what's recording, what's been recorded or will be, etc. Recently I've been finding that its program schedule listings have "NO DATA" for many channels. Yet the frontend's program guide happily shows listings for those same channels...

Re: Upgrade of mythtv backend, xubuntu 18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS

Thanks for this information. I don't know where or when the my.cnf file originated, but perhaps these options appearing in my 18.04 file simply didn't cause any problems prior to 20.04. Then during the upgrade, when I was presented with the option of either keeping my current file or allowing its re...

Re: Upgrade of mythtv backend, xubuntu 18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS

Thanks for the information, now a2enmod works, apache2 restarts without any crazy quilt patching in files.

But the some problems remain: deleting programs in mythweb doesn't work, and changing the recordings list from "all programs" to sub-entries doesn't work either.

Upgrade of mythtv backend, xubuntu 18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS

This morning I gathered my courage and upgraded my v31 mythtv backend running on xubuntu 18.04 LTS, to 20.04LTS. At the finish of the upgrade and after a reboot, I found that mysql would not run. Googling the error messages led to the following change in /etc/mysql/my.cnf: === # * Query Cache Config...

Problems with channels because of "repack"

I live in the SF Bay area. From my home in the East bay I can see Sutro tower, from which many of the local stations broadcast. Hence with very modest equipment I can pick up and record excellent HD TV. A few days ago I sat down to watch the recorded news and was surprised to find that the scheduled...

Re: Mythtv on Ubuntu 20.04

lirc functions well on my 20.04 frontend.

Have you regressed your lirc to the xenial version as outlined in the link in my post above? A crazy fix, but nevertheless, it works!

(SOLVED) Re: Mythtv on Ubuntu 20.04

I wish you luck. In the meantime, I have found a solution of sorts, I am using the lirc from Ubuntu xenial, a workaround explained here:

https://twosortoftechguys.wordpress.com ... ntu-18-04/

in lieu of ir-keytable. Kinda clunky, but it works!
