All of my storage is USB, mainly USB2 at that, a "pocket" drive that just plugs in and doesn't need a separate power source will give you at least 2Tb for "sensible" money these days, and can be re-used in your new system.
I run HD on max settings on a gt610 with no problems. With experience I'd have used a GT630 because it's bugarall more cost than the 610 and if the figures are to be believed knocks a 610 into a cocked hat, so adds a bit of futureprooofing.
