Re: The future of MythTV

With an interest on an integrated platform for TV viewing that included Mythtv recordings and streaming I've been evaluating some solutions. 1. The easiest is using an Android TV device as a frontend since all the streaming services have an app for their service. Then you add Leanfront for mythfront...

Re: The future of MythTV

Hi jfabernathy, What version of MythTV do you use? Mainly want to know if master is the same. Mark Kendell was doing a lot of work to the video output some of it is in v31 but there are also a lot of changes to master what will be v32. Unfortunately Mark has vanished without trace we've tried email...

Re: The future of MythTV

Thanks for the replies. Help me to understand why the hate for mythfrontend and the love for Kodi :? What does Kodi do that mythfrontend doesn't :?: From my perspective, it's not a love or hate. What I hate is bad video. I developed the bad habit of knowing bad video playback by working 26 years fo...

Re: The future of MythTV

I've spent the week setting up my TV stuff for my RV camper. It's a 40' fifth wheel trailer so it's a multi-TV setup just like my house. So that gives me some sense of what I really want in my TV watching instead of just keeping the old stuff in my house running. 1. Since there will be a lot of stre...

Re: interesting mythtv frontend now available for Android TV

if I remember correctly, I added a device to the Harmony Hub called PC Keyboard (which may just be a PC) and then I could define Guide or other buttons on the Harmony to send the 'S' key from the Keyboard to the Android TV. For me it got simpler since I use a Shield TV since Harmony has that device ...

Re: updated instructions for mythtv-light on RPI4

I had trouble with the script run_mythfrontend.sh from pi-utils and not the skills to fix it so I found a solution that works fine on my RPI4 combo FE/BE. #!/bin/bash # script to run mythfrontend from version 31 on Raspberry Pi under Raspian Buster using EGLFS # can be added to .bashrc to allow aut...

Re: X11 library has been updated - mythtv-light install now fails

I'm not seeing any issues. I just started with a clean SSD with Raspberry PI OS (Desktop) and followed my instructions at https://mythtv-rp4.blogspot.com/2020/11/how-i-installed-mythtv-v31-on-my-rpi-4.html I got both the frontend and backend working using EPG from OTA before replying to this post. I...

Re: Screen Setup Wizards cause FE to freeze

what is comes down to is installing mythtv-light the new way per the wiki from orangedoc and then I only used pi-mythbackend-helper.sh from pi-utils. I ran 'run_mythsetup.sh as is, but I used my own run_mythfrontend.sh #!/bin/bash # script to run mythfrontend from version 31 on Raspberry Pi under Ra...

Re: Screen Setup Wizards cause FE to freeze

git clone https://github.com/MikeB2013/pi-utils.git This link is no longer working, anyone know a working version for the desk-topless install of mythv-light/. Some of the scripts do work but not all. I recently built a v31 mythtv-light system combo FE/BE and had to make some changes to the instruc...

Re: Nvidia Shield v Firestick 4K for full frontend

I just gave it another go and the other issue I have is that it's not especially responsive - in particular when skipping forward or back in a recording. I'm used to being able to jump pretty much instantly. But perhaps it could be because I'm using a non-4K firestick? This is true, skipping takes ...

Re: Nvidia Shield v Firestick 4K for full frontend

While this is not your exact picture source, I have both the FireTV 4K stick and the Nividia Shield TV (2017) and on USA OTA 1080i (1920x1080@30) and 720p (1280x720@60) I find that Mythtv-Frontend on android is much better on the Shield than the FireTV 4k stick. but since my wife uses the FireTV 4k ...

updated instructions for mythtv-light on RPI4

I finally got around to testing my instructions since mythtv-light moved to Orangedox. This was a quick edit after I got my RPI4 mythtv combo setup for this years RVing season. (My RV is where I use the RPI4 with mythtv) https://mythtv-rp4.blogspot.com/2020/11/how-i-installed-mythtv-v31-on-my-rpi-4....
